Got around yesterday to start cutting, splitting and stacking the hickory that tipped over. Probably about half done.... There's going to be a few rounds left that will test my ability to pick them up.. Sure was nice yesterday, raining most of today though. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.. Stacking it with some red oak I've been cutting...
Awesome tree! Work smarter, not harder, roll the big chunks up on shorter rounds, and then roll them into the truck.
Nice tree, nice wood. A good hookeroon/pickaroon or even a hatchet firmly planted adds a handle. Just one handle helps the spine a lot.
And let us not forget these for picking up those rounds. Saves a lot of bending and makes the work much easier. Also, if the wood is wet, you won't get your gloves wet at all.
Hickory is heavy no doubt, but well worth it when you burn it. Tree sure is laid out nice for bucking. Great work!
Don’t do what I did and pretend you’re superhuman and pick stuff up out of your ability. I hurt my lower back something fierce a few yrs ago doing that for too long.

The previous owner of the property had started building his dream home in the woods and poured the footers/lower level walls and the concrete developed some significant cracks and he never finished the house. That was 15 years ago. The wood is stacked in the 3 car garage/man door holes. It's now an overflow firewood rack...and sometimes a shooting range. This is my "house"... Just up the hill a few hundred yards.
Pretty sweet looking place! By the looks of the drive, your a ways off the road. How much property you sitting on? I can tell your proud of it You should be! Old basement makes a great place for firewood too. You could even throw some trusses over it someday if you wanted it more enclosed. Very nice
I thought about putting a roof on it, but there are issues with that too. Concrete walls are pretty jacked up over the years. I might tear it down someday, but right now it's not bothering me. Oh yea, 20 acres.... And I do love hanging outside at this place fixing things up..
