Funny you should mention wanting to share wood. My friends son who likes to have a fire pit experience for his parties asked me for some wood last night as his mother (my friend - she was tested and got a positive diagnosis) is just getting over her Covid flu symptoms after a full month of suffering pretty serious back pain and fever (thankfully not much lung issues). Anyway they wanted to sit outside by a fire last night so I was happy to give a trunk full. Mind you this amount wouldn't make a dent in your stacks. Though I love the whole firewood process I cant imagine going about it as fervently as you do. This is why you're a legend on this site.

I would only suggest that if you really needed to keep active and create firewood (and I can't believe I'm saying this) but were hoping for someone to take it then maybe you might think about just delivering wood directly to their properties and splitting it right there for them and leaving it. That said I would never do that unless they were physically disabled. They just wouldn't appreciate it if it came too easy and would start to think they were doing you a favor helping you unload wood. No thanks! unless you really think these people are good friends who would be deserving of such an effort.

*So my second and better suggestion* is to start putting up ads for selling face cords on any of the community internet sites. I think your wood is primo looking stuff worthy of selling and it seems you really can make face cords ad up quick! Think about it. You can keep a face cord or two stacked regularly on the side of your driveway for pick up for when someone agrees to purchase.

Well, if chipdrop ever dumps a load of logs in my yard, I may have to do that. I got some wood using the Nextdoor app, I'm sure I could sell some too.

I just got a call from a friend of my wife. Hes having three trees taken down on Tuesday, and I was offered the wood, he thinks its oak. Some are pretty decent size if memory serves me correctly. Told him not to let the tree service cut them up! I'll probably bring the splitter over there and process onsite. Leave him a bunch for his fire pit.

Well another option, you can start selling a quarter cord at a time on FB Marketplace, or CL. $125 delivered for primo dry wood!

Sounds like fun! I guess you've got the time right now to process 3 oaks? Is it close by?

It's in Methuen, pretty close to where we got the ash.

Well I decided to go out for jaunt around my town early in the evening and was able to collect a modge podge of wood. The best of the score as far as firewood was the dead side of the road 14 inch dia. dry cherry log. I cut it into three 16 inch length logs. It was part of my towns flowering cherry trees crop. My town has the biggest collection of flowering cherry trees in the country, This is what they claim anyway. It has more than Washington DC and is popular during the spring with a big Japanese festival. This year it was called off unfortunately allowing only drive through's, but because of the extra cold spring we had quite a long blossom season! The state just opened parks and golf courses yesterday, but must wear masks.

This Cherry trunk made me a bit nervous to cut when getting near the crown as it had a few of those town identifying tags screwed in. I took a gamble and I was lucky I didn't find a long buried one in the history of the growth rings. The rest of the firewood consists of smaller branches of long petrified Black locust branches and some recently fallen dry and slightly punky oak. This is what I was referring to before. I get a lot of these little zombie wood scores that I don't think are always worth posting, but every once in a while I like to share so I can feel part of the family. :DSorry it looks like you guys are stuck with me :picard::tears:

The rest of the score outside of firewood consists of wide white oak flooring planks that are unvarnished, some molding and exterior plywood scraps...also the coup de grĂ¢ce being a full length 4x4x8' pressure treated post I pulled from a construction site dumpster. You can see the end of in the far right under the saw.

It's like a timex. Granted the back window is now completely manual operation. I can push it most of the way up, then I hit the linkage inside with a sledgehammer to get it all the way up. If I can find a halfway decent tailgate, that body will last me another year or so.

Ha ha, you made me remember Mod Podge! I was addicted to that stuff! I did a lot of decoupage! mod-podge-decoupage-cs11302-64_1000.jpg
Nice cherry log! I've found some like that, with the sapwood rotted away. They seem to last pretty well like that. I bet it winds up in your pizza oven!

Well it was bothering me to have to use my quality seasoned cord wood for these extended cold windy and nasty spring days and evenings. So today I decided to use the crazy wind to my advantage and go to one of the local riverside parks to see what the wind gods left for me. This particular park is predominantly shaded with old sycamore trees. There's always dry fallen branches to gather and drag to the car for some quick and quiet battery saw bucking blocked out by the sound of cars rushing by. Problem is they sweep over these well manicured parks every few days so it's hit or miss.

Today was pretty good for a quick score of very dry shoulder season sycamore that I will now burn happily. Can't believe I'm not talking air-conditioning at this time of year!

Ooh, dry sycamore small enough to put right in the stove, nice grab! I think it burns a lot like elm. Smells nice too.
I've been burning oak and birch. It's what's in the basement.

Yes "Buck and Burn" (I'm going to use that term from now on) is a large part of what I burn due to no yard space to hold more than 3 cords. This years winter temps were mild and so I thought I was going to have a record light year and only burn 3-1/2 cords. Then this crazy spring was like I moved my drafty old house to the rocky coast of Maine! I think I wound up burning just shy of 5 cords .... and that's so far! One of my heaviest years for burning.

I didn't realize you store wood in the basement, but now I'm thinking back and almost remember you posting your basement wood stack once. How much can you hold in your basement Molly? As for me there is just no room amid the years of clutter build-up. I wish I could burn all the clutter as a way to get rid of it and heat the house all in one haha! The problem I have is I only have a shed on the property and not a proper sized garage so all stuff.. seasonal and what have you goes to the basement where a lot of it gets forgotten. I keep telling my wife I want to hire those "Got Junk?" guys you hear on the radio, but she wont let me. She tells me I need to go through it and clean it myself :headbang:

Thanks! I hoard frequently, but remember, the quantities are small.

I know, when will it end? Starting to see some 70's in the 10-day.
I've got a lot of clutter too, but I can stuff a couple cords along one wall. I've been trying to burn at least some of it up. There will be a row of oak that stays down there this summer. With the dehumidifier going, it will be super dry!

I've restarted my trips to Winchester for sugar maple. IMG_20200602_19547.jpg IMG_20200611_48639.jpg
I'll be doing that until the excavator comes to dig WeldrDave's foundation. He says he'll be cutting about 20 cords worth to finish clearing his lot. I'll do what I can, but I only managed 2 and a quarter cords out of there last year.
