I let the jeep run for a few minutes yesterday in anticipation of getting it back on the road. No probs; started up right away!

Got the potatoes planted yesterday and I have room to plant another bag. Hopefully there will be some still at the store. campinspecter sacrificed a chain as well as using a shovel and pulaski to get the roots out of the garden bed. Salmonberry roots were about 1 1/2 in across and we filled a wheelbarrow full.

Our rain seems to be holding off. We definitely haven't received as much as other parts of the island. That is supposed to change come next week. It has been a great run of nice weather but everything needs the rain around here.

Pretty nice day here so we decided to load everybody up and go for a little drive this evening...stopped at a local restaurant that has a large pond and lots of ducks, let the kids feed the ducks...then went through a drive through to pick up dinner...went by one of the local DQ's and they were SWAMPED! Line was around the building, across the parking lot, and clear down the street! Sure glad we weren't planning on going to DQ! :faint:

My wife is an ice cream addict, as is her mother. We went out for a drive the other day, and I drove by her favorite ice cream place. I thought she was gonna cry.

My husband eats practically no vegetables, yet he's always talking up a meatless diet. I told him it's coming!

I don't eat many vegetables; I simply do not like them. Actually I guess I'm a very picky eater and that is one more reason I don't like going to restaurants. KISS is the way I go when it comes time to eat. And everything does not have to have lots of crap added to it. Give me taters and gravy with some meat and I'm happy. I do like some fruits but certainly not all of them. Apples, peaches, strawberries and raspberries can keep me going very well with an occasional orange too.

    Entitlement sickness
    By Pastor Mark Jeske

In our country the consumer is king. Or queen. Businesses fall over each other trying to give consumers what they want, or the herd will move to their competitors. Is that bad or good? Well, it’s good in that it pushes businesses to provide excellence in service and products. It can be bad, though, in fostering a me-first mentality in their customers. People today love to hear advertising messages like this: “You deserve it.” “Pamper yourself.” “You have a right to . . .” “You deserve some ‘me’ time.” “Give yourself a break.”

Do you suppose that “entitlement” mentality carries over into people’s relationship with God? Do you think that God owes you things? Like a steady income stream or a beautiful home or solutions to all your problems or a place in heaven? You know, if we got what we deserved from God, we would all be heading for hell. We are all prodigal sons and daughters, self-centered and careless.

The only thing we deserve from God is condemnation. The appropriate posture before him is penitence on our knees, just like the prodigal son in Jesus’ parable: “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son’” (Luke 15:21). Our great hope is in God’s grace—that he chooses to love and forgive us for Jesus’ sake.

    Enjoy his gift—undeserved, unmerited, unconditional.

Well, first the retirement party got cancelled, and then the retirement itself got cancelled. They never managed to hire or train anyone to do his work, and he wanted to stay on the health insurance for now. So, he's working about 30 hours a week. I think sooner or later the company will go out of business, though. They make and sell microphones and audio equipment to musicians and churches...
