Headed for the "uglies" section of your yard? I always like having an oddities pile, (still hoping to find a free "uglies" cage one day). I like them for a few reasons. 1. Great for cooking and chunking down further into perfect pieces for the charcoal grill (what you have there would be nice for that) 2. Quicker seasoning is always good especially when oak needs to be rushed to market haha 3. There is always that time when you look in the stove and see among the burning pyre an empty void that one of your odd chunks would fill in perfectly.
Lately I've been burning chunks from these cookies that I acquired in 2017. 4or 5 bricks makes a perfect load.
I signed a 2 year contract on propane, but havent looked at pricing lately. I still have plenty of wood. The bin on the porch is nearly empty, but I still have a half cord of the cherry you and I got last summer, and about 1/3 of a cord of your oak in the shed. Mild winter, so I probably burned just a little over 2.5 cords. Though, this cold at night stuff is getting old!
Well, it worked out to be two more car loads. The final pile: I am beat! It will live in the driveway for awhile until I figure out a place to put it.
So what's your plan if you never get Covid and then wind up with too much inventory? You saw what happened with the price of fuel. See?....Bet you never thought of that? Besides, even if your energy was wiped out you would still have more than the average person! Now me? I gotta worry
Yup I'll never get it, socially distant is my baseline anyway. I'll wind up with a backyard maze of stacks, habitat for possums, raccoons, chipmunks, bunnys, and God forbid, rats. Every mammal for himself!
No...skunks and groundhogs is where I draw the line! ...and Squirrels, ..mice, wasps, tomato plant army worms also got to go..and birds especially morning doves.. and those colorful pests that are always fluttering around stressing me out...oh yes that's the name butterflies! Okay, maybe some of those things I can try to live with...I think cabin fever might be setting in

Locust mania is actually a thing Buzzsaw, but not acquired from collecting of the often difficult, smelly and tough as nails wood. It's not even a result of infection from painful splinters that may bring microbial locust particles into the blood stream. Scientists believe"Locust Mania" more descriptively called (Scientific name -Robinia Pseudoacacia Psychopathia -RPP) believe it's a side effect from burning the stuff in wood stoves and becoming infatuated with the incredible BTU's and enjoyng being warm on cold winter nights. Just fyi.
I couldn't resist a Craigslist ad for ash, 16 miles away. It turned out to be the perfect size car hoard. I had to cut two long chunks. And on the last round, the crotch, I broke my sledge handle! Fortunately I was able to lift it into the car. I'll ask my husband to replace the handle, he's done it before. Uh oh, the driveway is filling up!
