Tree id please

This tree has yellow in the round under the bark at the first layer (cambium) its stump is pictured also. Its also pretty stringy with no odor. Hickory type?? I thought it might be poplar but its too heavy and the bark is too rough. Some of the bark resembles locust bark a little. The tree buds are huge also

looks locusty. See that piece of curl in the outer layer. That says locust to me.

 

I was thinking some sort of licust but it doesnt have thorns

 

They don't all have thorns. I've been fooled by mulberry before thinking it was locust, but I can't tell how mulberry-y those pics look to me. I wouldn't count on it but it's possible?

 

I don't see any locust there, but the second pic looks like 3 different species to me, possibly Elm varieties?

 

heartwood reminds me of the honey locust piece i grabbed yesterday but bark doesnt Bark does resemble red elm. Cant load the pic of it. Pics of splits?Woodwhore My red elm had an unpleasant odor to it...pizz elm, but red heartwood

 

Looks like red elm, but I've never seen one grow co-dominant like that.

 

Maybe a hickory??? like i said the buds are huge. I can get a pic of them tomorrow

 

See how hard it splits. My guess is white elm

stringiness in pic #4 says elm to me. Ive had fresh cut green elm split nice and clean like yours. For the most part i avoid elm being a hand splitter. Were those hydro or hand split Chris?

 

Hydro, i did split one on site with the x27 and it split easy

Im going to say yes, but it was over ten years ago i processed green fresh cut elm (not red variety) and it was frozen to boot. The rounds were bigger 12"+ as well. The red elm i cut around Memorial day last year and split it next day. Cant load those pics for some reason.
