Im not a fan of it as its too time consuming, but in this case i had plenty of half rounders. You working on any wood today?
This morning's effort - Laying them out an timbers and other limbs First bunch cut Load, cut, stack. Repeat until my back tells me to stop. I don't have any back issues. I'd like to keep it that way. All done for today, including chip cleanup That stack is about 5ft tall. Hopefully, th ground will be firm enough to split and move it, for the next bunch. I did a yard walk-around, and other than a few small white pine branches, no damage from yesterday's wind storm. i need to watch for the sun's direction when taking pics.
I fired up my 1mp X27. It ran for a few hours until the x27 started to miss it's mark. Funny how that happens. I used the smaller capacity 2-wheeler, as its wider wheels leave less ruts than my yard cart. I topped off this 2 row stack Then, consolidated what was left on this rack elsewhere, and started stacking here. It was a good time to stop. The sun was coming out, and so were the black flies.
Just caught up with this photo journey. Keep em coming. Stacks are lookin' great! Good times and the bread looked fantastic btw!
Hey MikeInMa sorry for all the likes you just got, I went even further back to mid March and held back on hitting likes even though I wanted to. I loved that gorgeous red oak! Also I like your hand tool collection, but especially your wood carts like that Bicycle rickshaw cart. I always thought that would be something I'd like to have, but very expensive for a good one and believe it or not I don't even have the yard space to wheel that around before running into a hill, obstacle or being pinched off by a narrow opening. That log rack hand truck would be good for my yard and may have to start hinting for a birthday gift. Anyway, I love the yard evolution and hope your back stays strong.
Every situation has its own solution, or two. I've had that yard cart for over 20yrs. Still going strong. Was expensive back then. It's kept in a toolshed, out of the weather. It has moved many a cord of wood, over the years. The log dolly was a CL purchase , a few years ago. Very handy to have.
Well.....today was moving day. From here To there It was time to clean up at the top of the driveway and let that area recover from my wooding efforts. Aside from 5 logs that are too heavy, as is, here's the last load It's a good pile if logs that I can cut from The log tongs are about 16in in length. Not sure why I did, but I kept the elm separate. The thickest piece is about 8in across. Might have to try to split it. Might not. I also have a pile of gnarlies that the x27 and Chopper One maul can't get through. To be noodled. There's also a few chunks left near the 5 logs. I'll use them to lay the logs on when I cut them shorter. The wood chips will be raked up and moved into the compost bin. Time for a couple of ibprofen, and a shower.
Indeed it is. While I had my yard cart out, I moved a load of shoulder stinky poplar up to the deck, ahead of the snow. 1-3 inches being forecasted here, in the morning. For some reason, my morning coffee seems to taste better watching it snow, with a hot wood stove 8ft from me.
Hey MikeInMa nice work, I think you'll be able to split those elms since they are not very large diameter. That said looking at the bark I think you have the tough to split variety...Who knows? It seems its always a surprise with elm, but when you get burned it leaves a scar on the brain sort of like "Splitters PTSD" Oh and one more thing while I'm at it... let me warn you not to leave that cart parked too close to the road. You never know, I may decide to take a nice drive through Main one day and that cart might accidentally get caught on my back trailer hitch. I may "unknowingly" wind up towing it all the way back home to NJ. Hey do you happen to know if that thing rated for Highway? Just curious
That 2+ estimate was for the ash/maple/apple/elm. The entire amount from this thread, including the tree service red oak, I'd say is about 4cords. A heating season's worth.
missed this follow up to. Making some progress sir and looking good. Smart to stop when getting too tired. Now you'll have room for that score next week!
I like that. A new one for hoarder disorder. I have locust mania. Ill bet The Wood Wolverine has splitters PTSD from elm!
Today was dry enough and not too warm to get back to wooding. It was time to get logs away from the top of my driveway. Cut, split, load, move, and stack. Adding to the top of similar wood The last piece I split, put a asmile on my face. Some short ugly pieces left. I'll probably end up noodling some of them. A little raking and the chips-n-leaves will end up in the compost bin. Felt good to be back wooding after about a week away from it. A few cooler mornings are in the forecast, so I hope to keep at it.
I split and stacked what I cut/noodled yesterday. Loosely stacked, well.. scattered rounds. After a couple of hours of splitting, I ended up with A mix of ash, maple, apple. Just to the left is the pile of logs still waiting their turn While I had them out, I looked closely at the husky log tongs. Someone stated in some thread that they were made in China. However - I've had them for 2-3yrs.
