This time I think for sure the officer was wrong. No, he did not want to hurt the man but sooner or later you have to realize he is not going to obey; that is the time to shoot and put an end to it.
I agree with you. I think the officer may have had reservations on using lethal force. And paid the price but being injured. Too bad it wasn't that home owner from South Range, he would have pulled out his chainsaw and gave that perp just exactly what he wanted! Training dictates aim center mass until the advance stops, no?
I commend the officer for his restraint, but it went to long. Guy's obviously on something. Agree with the small caliber assessment. Looked like he put at least 3 rounds in the guy. .45acp would've knocked him down & kept him that way most likely.
Years ago the place I worked at had a big chase and shootout across the road. We were all watching it unfold. Deputy rammed the guy and they both jumped out shots firing. Deputy hit the guy 4 times with a 9mm at roughly 50 feet. Guy had a heavy leather jacket on, guess leather is bulletproof cause he didn’t stop. Took local PD and 12 gauge to put him down. Still amazed that he was never penetrated to the point of stopping him. I’m sure drugs were involved. Been since the gangster era of the 30s since a shootout like that happened here.
Yep, to my mind 9mm just isn't quite enough. I know many use them & swear by them. I have no issue with that, it's a personal choice, but I'm still in the .45ACP camp.
WWII US used 1911 and Thompson’s. Germany used 9mm. Who won that one. I have a .40 for carry reasons and a compact without as much kick. I also have a couple .44s if I really want to see something dead. Would like a .45 or maybe 10 mm never really saw any reason to buy a 9mm.
I have a 9mm carbine. Got it for plinking fun. Home defense would be the 12 Ga shotgun as first choice, whatever's closest as second choice. No pistol permit here, but if I did, it'd be a .357 as first choice.
Umm.. If ya look, you'll see I'm in the wonderfully progressive state of NY. California East that is. People on the Eastern side of the state are freaked out by guns, so it applies statewide. No pistola without the appropriate approval. Ironically, there is a "premise" permit, but the application is the same as a carry permit. I've been thinking about getting my permit for years, just haven seen enough need to make it a priority.
Glad the officer will be ok, but I think he should be pulled from the force or go through some training and mental evaluation. I would be a little nervous in that neighborhood. Georgia right? I believe they have second ammendment rights there though. I do not know how they could of helped the perp. He would have been locked up, and red flag laws would have killed his freedom forever. Bad deal to make someone else kill you. Cowardly. Now that young officer will have to deal with the fall out for a long time.
