With the slow down I have been finding time to undertake a lot of projects. This is an old stove plate from the side of a Waterford Erin Wood Stove. The stove developed a crack so I took it apart and saved the pieces. Here is one of the sides mounted in an oak frame with before and after pictures.
That is very cool wood and coal burner. Nice finish to the cast iron. I saved the side plate from my dad's old Jotul 602 and made a wood storage box. The wood was from an old oak bureau.
The Morso squirrel side plate would make good stove art for the wall too. I have a bunch of Griswold cast iron damper plates that will go up on the wall behind the stove when I get to that project.
I like the wood box especially the "fake" drawer and I really like the squirrel. They are so similar to firebacks which are amazing in themselves. The PA Germans made them to store and reflect the heat from the fireplace and many told stories or had Biblical scenes.
