I have no use for the poisonous ones having been nailed once already. ( not due to being some sort of idiot or hold my beer type) The rest I welcome.

I wouldn't like an abundance of them around either but if they are not causing trouble or menacing me and mine, then I leave them be!

We don't have many here; mostly garter snakes, blue racers and milk snakes with an occasional rattler. I've known only one person in my life that has been bitten by a MI rattler. They took him to Ann Arbor (U of M) for shots. He got pretty sore but it turned out okay in the end. btw, he was picking strawberries at the time.

I don't have much of a issue with them, the misses tho has a HUGE fear of them, she would jump out of a car going 100mph if it even ran over a snake on the road. So any I see get the :rootintootin: treatment. Happy wife happy life.

I know the non venomous type won't actually harm me and I understand they are good to have around, I just dont like my reaction when I happen onto one. Heart tries jumping out of my chest, blood rushes somewhere it shouldn't be and I really dont know why. THEY JUST STARTLE THE _ _ _ _ OUT OF ME.

That's just a Garter Snake. They don't even have teeth. Even the bigger varieties that do are usually more than happy to leave you alone so long as you give them some space. I wish there were more patrolling my woodpiles, I'd have less mouse & chipmunk crap on everything.

I’m not the least bit afraid of snakes. They are just trying to get by, like you and I. I actually appreciate them eating the mice in my woodpile. I leave em be.

Hate snakes, always have. Yet as other have mentioned I hate mice more. Anything that eats mice is welcome,,,,even cats I guess.
Some hawks moved into the neighborhood some years back. Finally figured out no one was going to mess with them so they do a great job of keeping the mice population at bay.
Had a nice black snake living in my stacks last summer. One of the biggest I’ve ever seen but I never saw all of him at once. He’d peek out at me on occasion as I worked. Freaks me out a bit when you first spot them but once you know they are there it’s not so bad.
I hope he comes back this year. Old timers say the black snakes will keep the rattlers away. Don’t know if that’s true but I’ll take the possibility :)

Yes, black and king snakes will eat other snakes.

We have huge bull snakes here. They are really good critters. I’ve always been told they keep the rattlers away too. Not sure if it’s true or not, but I’ve never seen any rattle snakes near any bull snakes:thumbs:

In my experience, there are two types of snakes. If it doesnt have a rattle, its surely a cobra.

A venomous snake is extremely rare here so the ones I find around don't bother me. But yeah there's something about snakes that exude sneaky and untrustworthy.
Dunno how you catch a black racer, they are (usually) fast, fast, fast.

I stopped in my driveway to take pics of the leaner tree snapped from the storm. I walk around to the passengers side and open the door to get the camera. I look down and see this. Mustve been run over and not by me. IMG_2227.JPG
