Said goodbye to a few big old giant oaks today. The big oak at my mom and dads had an uncomfortable amount of lean towards the house so it needed to go. he also took off a couple limbs in front of their house that were hanging over the house. The the big oak across the driveway at our place at grandmoms old house was killed by leaf scorch over the last few years. We called in the big dog for this job. It's a volvo autocar with a palfinger 105' crane and a felling head attached. What an awesome machine to watch! He had the oak at my parents down in just over 2hrs and the oak at my place in a little over 1hr. He left the trunks for us to take down. We hired him for the day so we had him take off a limb from another tree that was overhanging our house quite a bit. He also cut out a bit of dead limbs way up top and topped a few leaning pines that were in danger of falling on some equipment. Sad to see the trees go but thankful we don't have to worry about them in high winds any more. The first round of pics are at my parents and the second are from ours.
His favorite word is tractor. The little bugger likes to take off when I'm not looking and I'll find him at the kubota every time lol.
Yes it was sad no doubt. The tree across the driveway at our place could've reached a bedroom on our house if it came down. Yea dad and I have some work ahead of us with the chipping amd splitting but you know the old saying "those who heat with wood are twice warmed"
i would be watching in awe too. Of course id wanna be up in the bucket too. Are you keeping all the wood Smokinpiney ?
Yep we're keeping it. And that machine had no bucket. It's literally only a felling head with grapple arms and a 22" bar operated by remote (700lb lift capacity). He'd snake it up to a limb, grab it with the arms, cut it and set it down anywhere we pointed. Really a cool machine. One man operation too!
It was $1600 for a 9hr day. Most companies around here would charge $1000-1500 just for one of those oaks.
This was dad at one point. He's always on the go so it was nice to see him sit and relax for a second.
Nice! That's some primo wood. And it's great to no longer have to stress when a big storm approaches.
