Well stay tuned, in the very near future (when everyhing arrives), I am going to build one; AND YOU CAN HELP! Yes you read that right, YOU CAN HELP!

Here is how it might work, we will use the Husqvarna 372XP as a base, I will put up a series of component options for the saw, such a cylinder/piston choices, carburetor/intake choces, muffler options and so forth. Perhaps we will do each set of choices as a poll that YOU get to vote on. I will then build a saw that uses the most voted for choice in each component category.

Once completed and tested, I will put the finshed saw up for bids right here and no where else! Then you have a chance to own the custom saw you helped build!

Work saw. I can and do port saws but refrain from doing it because of potential problems down the road for the customer. It is my belief that a ported saw forever ties you to the person who ported the saw: I don't believe that is fair to the customer. Most shops in my location will not touch a saw that has been modified by someone. So the owner has to pack up the saw, send it off and wait. Most of my customers are pro cutters who make no money if their saw is off in the mail to be repaired.

OBTW, porting is not a matter of just grinding away in the hope of making the engine run better. It is first a mathematical process of measuring/maping the engine's rotational timing, then trying to determine where gains may be possible. However there is no garantee that things will actually be better. Long term porters like Monkey, Randy and others have over-time developed a set of numbers for porting popular models of saws that maximize the opportunity for a performance gain while limiting the chance of loosing performance. However these formulas are generic to a particular model of saw and are not designed to provide all-out 'race saw' performance on one particular saw.

Okay, but why are you more comfortable with mixing-and-matching parts to create oddball saws that are unlike any production model? Why it that better than "porting?"

It is not any better than porting for me, but is better for the customer. Lets' say that your saw develops an air leak and toasts your expensive ported jug, lets' further say that you do the same thing on a BBK with an 064 piston. The BBK and the 064 piston are common off-the-shelf items that you can purchase anywhere from anyone not just me and put your saw back in service quickly. Think what steps YOU would go through to get the ported saw back in operation, then add up the cost including your valuable time and determine what you would rather pay.

So you would send out a parts list with any saw you sell so the user knows what jug he should be getting?
