I think we need to calculate the ratio of how much we burn each year compared to how much we hoard: I burn 4 cord a year and I have 12 cords, sooooo I'm a 12/4 or a 3. Then that number should have a name such as Btu processor
I finally hit my 12 cord goal. That's 12 cords scrounged craigslist/curbside and at the wood-dump. No chainsaw. In the trunk and backseat of a 15 year old sedan. Didn't cost me a cent. And I'm very proud of the whole effort. But never again. This year I'm shelling out the two hundred bucks for a large truck load of 18" rounds dumped in my yard. Hand splitting is exercise enough. I could do without the scrounge for a while.
Still in the Corleone level. Scrounging has become a nightmare. The every other day rain and my schedule seem to be coinciding, compounded by truck repairs as well.
Mines still there and still the same….. Although it has fluctuated this past winter but we caught back up… I hover at the BTU processor level, thats all I have room for.
I appreciate a good Zelda reference. No saw, no splitter. I wouldn't even know where to cut a tree down on my own in this suburban sprawl. Surprising easy to gather it all without a saw. Just time consuming. Just watch the craigslist for someone looking to get rid of a tree they already cut into rounds, and everyday stop by the power company's tree dump and load up the car. I have splits of ludicrously varying lengths as a result, though.
Something to be said for uniform length fire wood Still, 12 cords & no saw is "Impressive scrounging " "It's all BTU's"
Tryn to get 3 years ahead....im at about 5cord so far...tryn to hit 12 by the end of the year..its amazin how much wood that is..lol... ..people just dont appreciate the time and labor involved in burning wood....be proud....be very proud!
Many know how much work burning wood is & are afraid of it. Few use wood as a heat source let alone use it as the primary heat source, if it was easy more would do it We here know the work involved & are proud of it Most of us have fun with it too. Keep cutting, after you get 3 years ahead, then you only need to cut one years worth to keep there
Very true. I remember the amount I needed in the beginning..... but now, things are easier. Being ahead can save your azz during an injury too!
I don't even know where I fit anymore I need to recount lol.. I went wood crazy this year to make up for last winters cold and a few other things..
10+ cord of hard wood and about a cord of pine almost all seasoned and should last two years not doing too good working on year 3 like I should be this Spring and Summer. Got 2 or 3 cord of pine on the ground and another ten fairly easy to get to, so it's not like I'd freeze any time soon but I should get to it. Would like to use some of the pine to make a shed like DaveG's. Maybe get into dead standing oak again this Winter. Would like to get another 10 cord again.
