As some of you probably know. I’m a firefighter/paramedic on a busy department in the Denver metro area. The last month and a half has been EXTREMELY stressful at work. Despite our best precautions, some of my close friends and coworkers are now sick with Covid-19. I had an “exposure” to it on the job, so the department has me on quarantine at home. I’m actually really lucky to work for a department that takes these kind of precautions. It’s been several days, and I feel great. I think I avoided actually getting it. The cool thing is that I finally have some time to get some things done on my own - like tree work! I’ve been helping some of my less capable neighbors get rid of some dead trees. It’s mostly wildfire mitigation, really. They basically send me a picture of the tree or trees they want cut - or direct me to where they are over the phone and I go cut them. No in-person interaction, of course. We all have several acres a piece up here. It’s been life affirming work. I’ve been getting some nice firewood out of it too! Here is a truckload of what WAS a standing dead Douglass Fir that I cut for a neighbor yesterday. Ive also been working out 2+ hours a day. Aside from distancing myself from my family, it’s actually been really nice. I’m sure by now you all probably know someone who has, or has had Covid. Maybe just drop them a line. I hope that all of you and your families are staying healthy and happy! Your friend, Cash
Nice that you are putting your quarantine time to good use! I'm glad you're not sick. Maybe you're one of the asymptomatic, I hear that can happen 25 - 50% of the time. Enjoy your stress-free time, I'm sure you will make up for it later. Keep checking in!
Thank you for your service to the community. Your selflessness will come back to three fold. As a matter of fact it has already begun, you and your family are not sick.
Good words to live by Cash. My cousins girlfriend is on a department in the Denver area as well, and I work In Healthcare too, so these times can be heavy on the heart and mind. Good to stay positive like you are and still thinking of others at the same time. You’re a good man
Thanks, Midwinter! I will be getting tested before I go back to work. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
Thanks, buZZsaw BRAD! I haven’t met a tree yet that the 460 won’t blaze through. Take care as well, bro!
Cash Larue you are a winner! As others have stated, thank you for doing what you do. Yes, it is great to have some time off and still be able to get out and cut wood. Spend time with family too. So contrary to the media, it is not all bad.
Thanks Backwoods Savage! I always look forward to hearing from you. I agree with you. The media coverage of this whole thing is killing me. It gets the easily persuaded really wound up. A large majority of the calls that we are running right now are either people who have let the media convince them that they have covid - and are going to die... or panic attacks from watching too much news coverage of covid.
