NO, this isnt a personal question! I was bucking up the rest of the hickory from my 028 vs. a dead Hickory. score today. One log had a bunch of dirt compost in a crotch section. Fairly common from my experience. I knocked the dirt out and the tree itself had started rooting in the dirt. Ive seen saplings sprout from seeds in crotches but this is a first for me. Thought it was pretty cool. Nature finds a way. You can still see some of the dirt .
I’ve seen some roots when the tree is rotting in sections or there’s a void. Not sure if it’s actually the tree itself rooting or some other plant. The wood I’ve found it in was already cut awhile back and likely was dying because of that reason.
Yup, have seen something like this before. Usually something different growing there. Seen it several times with oak.
