I've got a chance to get some maple rounds, I think they're sugar maple but not sure. Would they still be good after being stacked for a year, particularly the pieces directly on the ground? Yeah they weren't stacked on a pallet or anything to keep them off the ground! Thanks in advance for your input. Jeff
I’d take them even with a little rot. Top cover to keep dry and you’ll be fine. If I was paying, I might reconsider.
If the tree was green/alive when cut yes. Bark may come off but wood for the most part should be good. Pic is of some sugar maple logs i scored last September. They had been sitting for 16 months. Just starting to go bad.
SD Steve, stuckinthemuck, buZZsaw BRAD Thanks guys for your quick replies! If it's not pouring down rain and they're still available in the morning I'll go pick them up. It's only about an hour drive so no big deal there.
Yikes, an hour drive. For your sake i hope it is sugar maple. Norway maple should be okay as well. Red or silver maple id forget about it, but thats just me. Post some pics if you end up getting it! How much is there?
my experience is the more the sun can get to em the longer they last. Stuff kept in the woods where there may be more shade seems to have a shorter shelf life compared to stuff on the edge of a field that sees the sun more. This seems to be especially true with maple compared to some of the other varieties I have cut. Either way, they should be good if only a year old.
