I thought it might be helpful for people to share activities they are doing with the kids while you are staying home. Yesterday we took a walk at a conservation area. We bushwacked so we wouldn’t run into people. In the morning I had noodled some large pine rounds. Son and I collected some to make egg carton fire starters for next year. We have been watching a lot of zoo cams as well.
I have been using drier lint and wax in egg cartons but it seems I am using up the fire starters faster than I can collect the lint. Do you use noodles from green wood or dry wood. Green wood would noodle easier. I may have to try that.
They've closed the conservation areas and walking trails here in Town. The beaches and parks are closed. Mass Audubon has closed all their wildlife sanctuaries and trails. I suppose you could revoke the no playing with your food rule temporarily and have some pasta art contests. Although stores seem to be out of this at least temporarily so you would have to be well stocked. You could have the kids help put up one of those # of days without an injury billboards like some businesses and their insurance companies have at the employee entrance only the home version would be #of days with kids at home and they are still all alive message.
So what do you do when the zoo cam suddenly show some animal "adult content"? Great idea making the fire starters!
You ignore it unless the kids ask about it. Then just say the basics. "That is part of their behavior"
My parents told me he's "going for a piggy-back ride" when the cows would do that... Hey, it shut me up!
The noodles are green. I put them on a frame with hardware cloth staples to it I use for drying herbs. its holding the slide up here.
We play a lot of card games and board games here. Although I don't know why.....it just one more opportunity for 99 lbs to beat me! Try having a game night! Seriously though. We start the day out with a game called "phase 10" that she picked up at a rummage sale. And another older but established board game called parcheesi is for later afternoon or evening. The game is much like "sorry" but superior IMO. I think "Sorry" is patterned after parcheesi.
If you have a decent size yard, out door play no matter what the weather is could be part of your routine. Hard though if it is really cold out.
