It ain’t wood but at least it covers mine! Wouldn’t call it cheap but since most sheets of this stuff does not last long when posted for sale, I couldn’t resist. Very happy with it.
Yes, I use tarps and they are just too much of a hassle, strong winds blow them off etc. and they are often too wide hanging down and blocking the flow of air through the stacks.
Nice score. I wish I had some of those, I would screw them right to the bigger rounds. Weights work much better I bet. Nice work!
Nice score. Too many folks like this rustic stuff for their bars, "mancaves", and other aesthetic stuff, keeping it expensive for practical use.
Yep, good to have, hard to find. 20 years ago you could probably pick it up by the trailer load Now it’s art.
Yep, exactly like that! I like that stuff is getting reused, don't like that so many others have caught on that it makes stuff expensive for a scrounger like me! In my neighborhood, almost no one else burns wood for heat, so I have all the free wood I can use, and more. I'm afraid this virus thing might change the equation back to how it was in the 70s and 80s, and there will be competition for the wood, like there is now for corrigated steel.
For now a lot of the wood is free and many are to pick up on that. I don’t think many heat with wood around me as much as they do with electric or oil. Most do for ambience. I do for both. Feels like that extra “person in the room” and the oil heat is a weird sticky like heat. So It’s very hard to turn to the oil unless its only for a short time.
Two things will continue to keep people away from burning wood. The initial cost of putting a wood burning unit in a house and people are lazier today than ever.
While the TP is amongst the missing on store shelves, there was plenty of shrink wrapped firewood to be had. Just like Hookedup24 said,it's too much money and work for most
Nope .... just a Charlie cheap ash, that is finally getting his man cave/ trophy room. Doing it all myself. The used tin only cost me $1 a sheet
Paid a liiiiil more than that but the find is too damm rare, the guys who say they are used in this kinda building is what it is. If I ever wanted to I could hope to find another cover like say epdm but I’m just fed up with tarps. So until then, this is what have. I’m grateful!
It was back in the mid 90's. I took a ride one evening for some light duty off-roading and "found" 2 piles of used metal roofing that were stacked and were about 6' to 61/2' high. Some lazy SOB just decided to haul it out into the woods and drop it off. I couldn't get it out of my mind. About 2 weeks later, I went back and grabbed some of it to cover the wood pile. A lot of people swear by it but it does have its drawbacks also. The metal was wide enough to cover 2 rows of firewood. Once the stacks had 3'+ of snow on them and you used up one of the rows, you had to be careful as ever or else you might filet yourself on the edge of the roofing. Eventually, I did go back to using tarps and not worrying about losing an eye..... or an ear...… or getting a lobotomy!
This is true. I was thinking about the corners not too long after I set them on the piles. Maybe can try to turn up the corners a bit? Give it a bit of safety tape on the sharp ends maybe for a heads up.
