Our family has had really bad luck with GM's. These were in the mid to late 90's. One 94 full size super cab 4.3 didn't even make it 75k without major electrical issues. A couple ecm's under warranty, a few alternators, and several near dead on the side of the road moments. It was new to 3 yrs old and just a POS. Then a 96?? 3.4 olds achieva, engine had head issues. That car didn't even crack 100k. It didn't even have time to rust. Had a 94 3/4 ton work truck too. 350 tbi was the most gutless v8 I've ever seen. Rear main seal went on the freeway at 125k. Needed a new engine. Replacement 350 tbi was as gutless as they original. Then there's all the bean counter ignition switch/ outboard fuel cell/ general " price engineering" that I can't stand. When a company has to determine what each human life is worth before they fix a known problem, that's where I draw the line.
As it turns out, both brothers have the same engine (chevy V8) that shuts down to 4 cylinders. One has 40K on it and the other has 140K on it with no probs. I think I'll leave the AFM hooked up since it is still warranted anyway. With the nation's state, the truck probably won't see much use anyway.
My statement was regarding bigger things than the AFM, but sure why not. How long is the warranty for?
Bumper to bumper for 12,000 more (or 12 months) starting now plus powertrain up till 100,000 or 3 more years.
And its like I said. If'n I absolutely don't like it, there'll be another in it's place. Who knows...with the length of this shut down and the effect on the economy, maybe, just maybe, the prices of vehicles will drop.
Just read an interesting article. Harbor freight is donating it’s entire supply of masks, gloves and anything else considered medical to hospitals with 24 hour emergency rooms. Good on them I say....
They’ll be sitting with a lot of new cars they can’t sell. First thing to go are cars/trucks and luxury items in severe uncertainty. I hope we turn the economy around by the end of the year.
A co-worker had an 07 Silverado with AFM. He made it to 230K before he lost a lifter and left AFM alone the whole time he owned it. Rust had already eaten most of the truck, but he somehow got $2500 on trade for it. A friend of mine had a 2010 and puked a lifter under bumper to bumper warranty, puked another under powertrain only warranty, sold it and bought a Dodge. Never know why you’ll get these days. Some swear by them, some swear at them. I’m going to keep my 05 that always runs on 8 cylinders until the salt gods call it home for good.
What I know is both our 79' and 81' both had wiper issues, actually funny, they would go off when they wanted, and all of them from the 79'- late 90's had the same interior vent flippy thingies in the dash break. All of them, but seems like we keep vehicles a lot longer out here without rusting issues. Other is knock in the blower fan from the 94' 2 door Tahoe to his 2014 Sierra now. And yes, my Duramax too. That said we've always had dirt roads to get to/from home with washboard. Marshel54 , we had a 72' sedan for a few years, loved that thing, sounded like a small engine aircraft when I rumbled around in it.
Finially finished my instant water heater last weekend. The Teflon tape twisted up the threads and both hot and cold fittings leaked. Got pipe dope and no more issues with those brass fittings. I love the instant heater! Set and forget, no constant messing with the temp as the water cools. This weekend I cut out the moldy sheetrock and board where it was leaking and molded the wall. The old one didn't quite make it to 18 years. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
I took this picture just today. I wondered if they had any gloves. I wanted some for wrenching. I got a big box of vinyl, from Wal-Mart, last time. And they suck. They tear easier. I wanted to go back to nitrile. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
I’ve been wondering that myself. And with the feds dropping the interest rate to zero, will we be able to get a used truck loan at a much lower rate in the near future? Even with a zero interest loan on a new truck I wouldn’t want to borrow $50,000. But 1 or 2 percent on a nice used truck might work in the future.
