You could empty the tank and use the gas to start a fire, but besides that those things are useless.

You all answered my questions about that 5hp chipper.

I used to have a 5 HP chipper. Got it from a relative for free. It hadn’t run in at least a decade. I replaced the fuel line, gassed it up and it ran.

That was by far the most dangerous machine I’ve ever used. Noisy as all get out, would either try to rip your arm into the machine or shove something back in your face.

I used it a couple hours over the few years I had it and ended up selling it for $50 when I moved. Burn piles are a lot faster, plus you can drink a beer while burning, not too wise when running the chipper. :D

Dang that’s a lot of clean-up! And hitting metal to boot. That’s enough to frustrate anyone. Makes me curse when it happens to me.

We had a dusting of snow overnight. It's melting, so hopefully I can get some work done on this mess today.

I think once I get the rounds off the lawn, I'll be able to get more of the branches TCO.

Yes, that is the difference between a yard tree and one grown in the woods. Still good wood though.

This one's extra, more so than any other I've ever seen. It makes the one I took down into the cul de sac look like child's play.

Well, like said, you'll still like the firewood. Too bad about the nail though.

btw, we got about 2" of snow here.

Ok, 2 loads of the 4x8 trailer pretty full of rounds moved to the processing area. I restarted the burn barrel and made a little dent in the branch pile.

There's probably another full load of rounds left, none bigger than 18" I think though, as I got the big boys moved first.

I need to do more cutting though, and most of the rounds out of the way will help me be able to get in there.

I'll go try and get the 029s running as it weighs less than my dolkita, and has a sharp chain on it.

Well at least there was some wood under all those branches.
Bought a used 8hp chipper some years back. Thought the women would love it. Used it a couple times after buying all new knifes. Gave it away for free shortly after ;)

I worked my way up from various 3 point tractor chippers to eventually a big tow behind Vermeer self feeding disk chipper with a 6 cyl. It worked well but they'll work a man nearly to death feeding it. Sold it to a buddy in the tree business and got a pack of matches.

    Progress.

I used the stihl 029super. I think this is the first time I used it since I got the dolkita. Filled the gas tank, and checked to see if it had any bar oil in it. Yep. Good enough to see if she'll start.

10-15 pulls, and it was running. The 16" .325 chain on it was nice and sharp. Much lighter than the dolkita to boot.
It's quieter than the dolkita too, although the earmuffs on my helmet negate the noise pretty well.
I appreciate the forestry helmet my wife got me for Christmas. It's spared me a few noggin' knocks and wood/ bark chips to the face.
I will say that if you need to spit, that you should remember to flip the chip shield up first.
    :loco:

The chip shield bit made me lol. Did just the exact thing just the other day. Then topped it off by trying to get a drink through a straw. Took me two trys to figure out you cant get do that with the shield down. Its a good thing my boots only fit well on certain feet.

    Hey, it happens.

Good PPE should be unobtrusive. Not even noticed until you have that moment.
