My buddy came over this am. We dropped this, I pulled it with the Ariens, and he felled it. After it was on the ground, I went to work. It could go a lot of directions except opposite where we wanted it to go. It went right where we wanted it to go. 22" at 17" off the ground. Yes, that's a crap ton of branches and sticks. This tree didn't get any leaves aside from about 8-10' up, suckers. EAB did this ash in and the rest on my home property. Look what I found. Grrrr Yes, that was a nail. I'll need to run the 2 in 1 file on it. Apparently I found the only nail on the tree. It still cuts, but there's more dust. The trunk is all bucked up. There's a 17" round left on the stump I'll need to cut. I'll be working on brush clean up for a while. I'm glad this is down though. It was starting to drop branches. Right over the driveway. It was just a matter of time before one fell on a vehicle or worse. The roses in front will be happy too, as this made a lot of shade. It's crappy outside. Windy and 34°. 10-20 mph gusts.
Good job gettin' it on the ground w/o injury to you or property. That. is. a. chit-ton of branches. Worse than Spruce.
Nice sized tree. Well done! Dead ash tops can make a huge mess when the hit the ground, they shatter like glass.
Yeah, this is probably the bushiest ash tree I've ever seen. Too bad it was in my yard and not the woods. If it was in the woods, I'd leave the branches in the woods. Not an option here. I'm done for the day. The driveway is 100% clear, and there's a 4x8 trailer 7' tall of branches waiting to get burnt. Tomorrow I'll cut and haul more branches, and probably haul the rounds to the pile.
Nice work...and yes, that is one bushy azz, er...ash tree! Can you just burn that brush where it is...maybe drag it out there where the tractor is?
Ok, not done tonight. I started up the fire pit. I then filled the gorilla cart up with branches and I'll reload it up a few times tonight. It's going to take a while.
Nice work Horkn Too bad about the nail. They seem almost inevitable in yard trees. Good workout for the hydro coming up. Where do you dispose of the brush?
Yes, there's that, but it's a lil chilly for a hose at the moment. My wife would be the main reason to not burn it in the yard. She'd flip. Not going there, I've lost more of my family recently, and couldn't stand to lose any more of my family. She's already not happy that my buddy was here at 10:30 this am and I didn't have the branches from the fir tree all disposed of. To me, I wasn't going to drop this tree on my own. So my buddy was available, and the temps were good, if not a bit chilly.
Our neighbor does have a 5 hp chipper I could borrow. IDK if that would really help a lot though. Hard to say
My FIL had an 8 HP chipper that I tried out before he sold it (cheap!) and it was terrible! I couldn't believe how poorly it worked!
