This saw is up for a municipal auction and is listed as "Stihl 660 with 24" bar fair condition runs good". Inspections are no longer available because of the virus and although you can bid and win invoicing, payments and pickup is delayed until 4-8 at least. So experts what's your opinion on bar length and maximum you would feel safe bidding ?
    Thanks people !

    I was thinking 36" and it's passed $400 already.

Just exactly what I was thinking too.
Mine has a 32" on it, and that one looks to be a good bit more...

You could get the powerhead length, lay the pic out on graph paper/grid, figure it out from there...

Yeah I thought of scaling the picture. I just was checking what it was up to then I took a screenshot and posted it. Does the 660 have the same bar mount as the 880 ?

880 has a completely different bar mount than the 261-660:

Looks like a 42” to me. If I’m not mistaken the 880 uses a 3002 mount.

42" without being able to measure it. If it's 660 I would think it would need a high output oiler to run that length bar/chain combo safely. My former 660 stock took up to 36" bar. I'm no mechanic or saw wizard, so, you may want to check with someone more 'in the know' than me.

Either the seller is dyslexic and they meant to type 42" or what's pictured isn't what comes with the saw. They may keep the big new bar and sell PH with another bar.

Maybe it's me, but I'm always leery when the pics don't match the description.. Contact with the seller would be a good idea.

Looking again at what you posted, it says the saw is in fair condition. Without knowing the mechanical shape of the saw (scored/low compression etc.), the saw in the photo looks way better than fair condition. Maybe the saw being sold isn't the one in the photo at all.

The government auctions that I am familiar with, they try not to overstate an items condition.

Good point! My company does this when they sell on the government auction site.

Which reminds me, it's been awhile since I have logged in and seen what's for sale. Might find some good deals in light of what's happening lately.

So any thoughts on price ? Like where does the "you dumbass" point start ? It's in the want more than need but I will use category. It's a little bigger and a little lighter than my Echoes are.
