Ms. buZZsaw and i were doing some raking. She found a tick crawling on her and one attached later when she showered. Keep an eye out hoarders!
Ugh literally walked into the woods behind my house 2 times... Not far... Not for long... Both times had a tick crawling on me. I think this is going to be a bad year for ticks.
I found a tick crawling in me yesterday. Then later found one dug in when I showered. I've probably pulled a dozen off myself already this year. First time one latched in though.
yea as many ticks as I have pulled out of me and as many friends I have that have had lyme disease... I guess I have been very lucky.
Same here. My mom had it, Ms. buZZsaw too. Last two years it seems they are plentiful early then i hardly see any later on???
Most ticks will crawl around for about an hour before they attached; so check for ticks about every hour when out working. I usually end up pulling about 5 attached ticks off me every year and I try to be careful; you don't always feel them crawling on you. Usually I find them when the bite starts itching; which means I have built up an immune response as they release a chemical to prevent the itching. Ticks can carry a half dozen bad bacteria that can make one very sick. I wish I could get a wide test for tick diseases considering how many times I have been bitten. It might explain why I feel so tired a lot of the time; it could be some tick disease.
Here is an interesting thing about ticks, they go through several stages of growth and to move from one stage to the next, they have to have a blood feed. So the tiny ticks you see are just the baby ticks that are looking for a blood feed to move to the next stage. Ticks are actually arachnidas.
Ticks have unfortunately become part of life for us. Between us and the dogs we pull hundreds off every year that are crawling on us or them. Every now and then we find one buried in the dogs. Even with the monthly flea/tick application. If they don’t get burned with a torch lighter they get fed to the chickens. Have to be so diligent about checking yourself. And checking frequently. I hate to say it but I’m at the point where I’m so used to them they don’t really bother me anymore. Having already contracted a tick borne illness you’d think I’d be more paranoid about them. They’re just a huge PIA.
Hate these little bastards!!!!!!!! I guess the season is starting, being home and trying to occupy the kid out back all the time I'll have to start checking......!
