GREAT IDEA on the ramp, and the support for the wood tray. I used a piece of angle iron and welded it to another piece of tubing to put under the wood tray. You'r idea's a great one, i'll have to remember that ramp idea.
Well, my hunny had grandson duty yesterday, so I worked solo again. Made some progress. This load we got 2 weeks ago is the one I worked on. All the longer logs are 10'6", which gives 7 18" rounds. It started out foggy and cool which was nice. The rounds on the ramp were from a previous work day. It got sunny and about 85° or so.... Got the whole load bucked up, using the tractor forks. Used the 2 smaller saws, MS180 & XS029. huskihl did a fine job on the 029. She is still running strong. Started splitting into the box, then carrying it to the rack to stack. Still a little wet in the old processing area and still have some cull wood to clean up there. Got 2 boxes split and stacked. Added a few pieces to back row and got the middle row done. Stopped working on the wood yard about 4:00 in the afternoon, carried the dump trailer over to my friend with the welder. He was able to fix the hinges on the door, made some metal caps for the upright tubing, originally had plastic caps, and then painted the work he did. Maybe 2 hrs...I'm very happy to have the orginal tailgate back on, and will be able to return the $953 replacement that didn't work as well. He is also going to work on our mower deck and build a umbrella mount for the splitter. Glad he is a wood burning friend... He will be getting a load this fall.
T.Jeff Veal How do you use that ramp with the rounds on it? Can't quite picture how that is being used other than for staging.
That's it, stage a bunch of smaller rounds on it and use the hookaroon to roll them up, once I can't reach them, or roll big rounds up to the splitter, stage a few of them too...I'm not going to pick up 20-24" rounds of green oak...lol...got a few logs on deck (see earlier post, Miz Carol is standing by one) I will use our older splitter vertical to reduce it to size.
Got home about 7:00 last night, went straight to the wood yard. Had 1/2 a big round already on the splitter, then loaded these 5 up. Got these done and stacked in the box. These rounds are turning out a nice amount of great wood. Box has 24" sides x 48"long. Not going to let this wood get in bad shape like I have before. Loaded the ramps up for this evening. Got done before dark, every bit helps.
Holy chit, the hose story does not sound pleasant but whew. That thing would remind me of any cable line snapping in logging. Zero time for reaction. Your log loads are amazing and I wanna get that trailer like yours! damm door bs. That sucks. Props to Screwloose for being willing though, that would be a great project if a gtg were happening and you two showed up. Man those rounds and splits look amazing. I had some nice splits come out of that oak but yours are dandy!!!
Yours look great too. My friend got trailer fixed Thursday evening. I'm even happier that I can take the other gate assembly back and get a refund. And I'm going to get the hose next to the one that popped replaced too.
Managed to get 2 more boxes split yesterday evening, when I get the last one stacked, that will finish that shed. Finally found 2 RM semi chisel chains on eBay, local saw shop couldn't order them, be good for cutting limbs or dirty logs.
Thank you, brother. So glad to get most of our old logs processed over the winter and get some really nice logs this spring. We're working hard to get it CSS.
Tried out the RM chain. Cuts good, not quite as fast as the full chisel or square grind, but maybe stay a little sharper on some of the dirty logs or cutting limbs... After testing the saw on 2 logs, got back to business of splitting and stacking. Finished stacking the box from yesterday, got 1 cord shed done. White and red oak with a bit of cherry. Moved the backer panel over to the 2 cord shed, split and stacked another box full This is all that's left of the trailer load I bucked up Thursday, at the top of this page. Had some nice weather to work
Went to the woodyard this morning, finished up the pieces on the splitter, the half round on the ramps and the big round next to the ramps. Turned out a nice amount of splits. All this in the box A customer came by to get a load for the fall hunting season. He and his son helped split and load the knotty pieces in the above picture, then we split 2 big rounds of that oak log I tried the new chain on above. Must be pin oak, smells like ... He got about half trailer load of green wood, I showed him the piles of culls we had left, gave him enough to finish loading the trailer, sure helped us clean that area up.
Those are some nice blocky splits! You must have been happy to see the knots and culls moving down the road.
Yes ma'am, sure was. Doesn't look like it going to cool off enough to use the burn barrel soon, still have some to clean up...
