I use a French stove manufactured by Godin to heat my shop. These stoves were imported to the US up until the mid eighties but no longer. They are however still imported into Canada and parts are available from Droilet the Canadian importer in Quebec.
Who knows, stove was supposed to heat a 27 square meter home. All I know is it does a great job in the shop and does not take up much room. Only drawback is that it wants only 1 90° turn and the chimney stack wants to be 20 feet above the 90°. Attached a picture of my shop.
Thanks, Jim! The thing works great, nothing left in the ash bin but powder. Easy to start, you can cook on it and a 5 gallon pail of nut coal will burn 24 or so hours. Stove has a clyndrical fire brick liner to boot. Got this one off CL (Binghamton, NY) for $400.00, never used.
That looks like the large round Godin. They are rated at 10kw/hour output, about 35,000 btu/hour. Good anthracite has about 12,500btu/pound. I burn between 40 & 50 pounds a day in my Godin or about 20 to 25 thousand btu/hour. Great stoves, once started they will burn forever with minimal tending. I shake mine twice a day, and remove ash each morning. KaptJaq
