Thank you for the nice welcome! It's nice to find a group of people that share the same interest, as all my other friends don't quite understand my obsession with firewood. I assume I'll get to look at the holz hausen for 3 seasons before I have to dismantle it, but until then I'll enjoy it. I have quite a bit more oak I need to split and stack... maybe I'll do another one?
Not me. What that does is make china great. I go out of my way to support OEM's and specially made in USA products. I'll even spend double if I have to.
Welcome to the forum. Another Ct contingent. Looks good, did a nice job. Still waiting for some extra time so I can try one.
Great job! Real nice looking. Never have made one myself nor have i tried. Id probably make one and enjoy looking at and not want to burn the wood! Welcome to the FHC rainking63 . Great to have another fellow Nutmegger here. Lots of great folks here. Im in North Haven!
YW! If you ever need help with a score, glad to help out. I have couple saws (can cut large diameter wood), my PU and a voracious appetite for making firewood. Gone hoarding with a couple other CT guys already.
Welcome rainking63. That is a piece of art! I would love to have the room to do a couple of those but would hate to have to tear into them to actually burn.
Thank you! It was really a labor of love. My wife asked what I wanted to do for my birthday, and I said "Play in my wood pile." She thinks I'm nuts. I'll be putting up another thread soon about my recent wood score. A guy across the lake from me has given me 6 cords of chunked up red oak, and I'm in the process of moving 4 more cords of maple, been chunked up and drying out since last May.
This guy ain't lying. First hand experience here so be careful what you wish for ; and a bottle of Advil on your night-stand won't hurt either. Old Lyme , worked out there for 13 or so years a while back ; and Welcome !!!!
Forgot to mention the one thing that was a problem for me = Chipmunks. Being up for that long with all the nooks and crannies inside of it they loved for a place to call home and they were nice enough while taking up residence to leave me with the wonderful smell of pee and all the nesting left behind. Hard to find good tenants these days.
I swear, every year I build my stacks I can feel the eyes of every mouse and chipmunk in my zip code, looking at me and saying "Ah, he's building it a little bigger this year. Good deal. We'll move in in April."
You have to stack a cylinder over 5 feet high at the same stacking density to match the 256 cubic feet you could stack on the same 8 foot by 8 foot platform at just 4 feet high. With the center hollow or loose thrown it requires quite a bit more than 5 feet tall to match. So, not really. It's certainly something to do just to do though.
