As many of you may (or may not) remember from last year's thread so-we-rented-a-firewood-processor, our extended family has rented a Firewood Processor a couple of times. Well, this is year three of this family event. Here is the cliff notes version for this year: * 4 households (down from a high of 6, for various reasons) * 4 adults & 2 teenagers (14 year old & 15 year old) were the majority of the workforce * 2 dogs * 2 tractors * 1 skid steer * 1 Dyna SC15 processor * 2 dump trucks * 1 dump trailer **** * Production this year = 14 dump truck loads & 1 dump trailer load worked up. Estimated 29 full cords. We did not do quite as much as last year, but I am more than happy with the 4 dump truck loads at our place. There is a lot of prep work that goes into making this happen and run as smooth as possible. Ironicly, we ended up with a large amount of wood that was too large for the machine to handle. So, I see some noodling in my future, but I don't know if I'll get to it any time soon with a lot of other projects in process or planned. Please forgive the lack of a great write-up. If you are interested in more details, check out the link to last year's thread as well. Now, the payoff for the FHC family = pics! I'll split this up into a few posts. Enjoy! Happy hoarding to you all!
Ralphie Boy , spot on brother! She's a 74. buzz-saw , thanks. MikeInMa , it is very funny you should say that. Reason being that my nephew and son did some funny posing for their grandmother this weekend. They spent most of the weekend driving the tractors and the skid steer. Anyway, they found some old Tonka type toys. So they found a skid steer and a tractor and posed with the toys while on the real things!
Stoveshamster , many thanks. Woody Stover , you've got it! . That is how we roll. It was mostly red oak, chestnut oak, white oak, pignut hickory, tulip poplar, and red maple. There may have been a few others spattered, but none I cut or noticed.
There's a guy down the road a bit that sells firewood and delivers with that same GMC with the same paint job. Also a little cow manure.
I like that box on the back of the tractor. Nice that you got out there before everything turns to mud!
quite the undertaking and well done Stlshrk ! You couldve sold tickets to FHC members to pull up a chair and watch. Only "problem" is that most of us would get up and help!
