Finally got around to finishing my first holz hausen (holz miete). It's just under 3 cords of red oak and won't be used for 3 years or so. I wanted the aesthetic appeal of the vertical sides without the horizontal "shims", so I used some left over wedges to fill the space and keep things tight. Fingers crossed there won't be any catastrophic failures as the wood dries, so we'll see.
Looks really good. I built one maybe 5 or 6 years ago, but I felt it took way too long and the drying process didn't seem any quicker to me.
I hear ya. I wasn't concerned about how quickly this load with dry, as I'm ahead by a few years. And yes, it took way longer to build than your typical stack, but it was more of an arts and crafts project for me.

Looks great! I did one a few years back and might do another one this year so I can hide all my shorts , nuggets and uglies inside it.
Looks great! My only concern would be with the pallets holding strong. That's a lot of weight on a small footprint.
Hi XXL. It's a cheap, Chinese saw off of Amazon. 20" bar that I put an decent Oregon chain on. I have a Husqvarna that I was tired of fighting with. I do small engine repair as a side gig and I've never had as much trouble with an engine as I did with that Husky 240. Also, it wasn't powerful enough for my needs. I sprung for the Chinese saw on a whim and I've been pretty impressed with it for the past few months. It's no runner; I'll use it as a beater until I can acquire something a little better.
I'll take a running knockoff saw over a non running name brand saw any day of the week. I've actually seen some positive posts on other Chinese Amazon/Ebay saws.
@rainkin63 I don't believe I've had the honor yet of welcoming you to the forum so today, I welcome you. Reading and looking at yours reminds me of another former member of this forum who built a HH. As far as I know it is still standing as he did such an outstanding job to make it really look super great, he doesn't want to tear it down. I've kidded him that the wood will either rot or petrify before he gets ready to use it.
