It keeps getting a bit darker here. Rain on the way.

    No leaks, still full.;).

I will say that now that I've done 2 oil changes on my truck, that I don't understand why Ford would put an "oil diverter" under the oil filter when the oil can't really go that direction unless you either do the oil change on a hill with the front end down, or by jacking the rear end up on the truck. There's an " oil spillway" in the front and it also can go behind the cross member, which most of not all does.

TBH, I'll probably put a remote oil filter kit on my truck because the location of the oil filter is not great. It should be so much easier with as much room as there is under hood. They put it in the hardest to reach spot. My long arms can barely reach it from the top, and that will only get worse if/ when I level the suspension or add bigger tires. Lifting the front up a bit would help with access from underneath, but that will only make the oil want to run away from the oil waterfall spout that they put on.

There's several aftermarket oil drain plugs that work better too. I'll get one if those.

Those spring rains do a lot to drive the frost out the ground. Looks like an early spring, but I am very wary of "looks" Not too far back, we got an early spring, trees with leaves ect. then the full moon, big frost, Those new leaves, dead. But as nature is, it grew new ones and it wasn't long before the damage was corrected. Ticks are back at it again. Time to take precautions.

One reason I like our Volkswagen is that the oil filter is on top of the engine. This last oil change I used an oil extractor through the dipstick tube so I didn’t even need to get under the car for the drain plug. I could change the oil dressed in a Tux.

We had fog here this morning. Could use some rain to help clean up the roadways from the winter sanding....

Clear skies, below freezing and a full moon on our walk this morning. Just gorgeous. Two more weeks and then I will get a week off for Spring Break. I am going to need it this year.

My Audi was like that. Cartridge oil filter on top under the Audi logo. Now the Audi required the skid plate to be removed to pull the oil plug, which was a pita. That one an extractor would probably have made oil changes super easy, provided there was no check valve.

The 2.7 Ecoboost is cartridge as well, but you can't use an extractor on them due to the check valve. The 5.0 like mine is not bad, it's just the spin on oil filter is buried at the bottom of the engine, not the side or top where it's simple to get at.

If I remove the air dam then that would help with access from below.

I've had a bit of a sore elbow for a few weeks from shoveling the last snow storm. It has been getting better, but using the saw has not helped, and I have limited my time cutting.

I was thinking about getting a smaller saw to cut up all the maple saplings and limbs from some downed pines and hemlock here. I just put the idea off as I have lots of other front-burner projects going on.

So this afternoon I get an email for the local free ad web page for a small Stihl chain saw. The owner was having trouble starting it. It went in for a new carb and chain sharpening last fall. It was stalling out with the brake on.

I picked it up 20 minutes later and gave it the once over when I got home. The gas smelled bad. I got that out and put in fresh stabilized mix. The chain was too tight. With the brake off, I could not turn the chain on the bar. I made a small adjustment there. It started on two pulls, but had a very high idle. I believe that at the dealer the chain was sharpened and put it on too tight and the idle was increased. There is only the idle screw that I adjusted down. I think it just needs a tank of gas put through to stretch it's legs. It hasn't seen much use. It cuts real well and is easy on the arms. This is really such a great thing for me. I am thinking of sending her a gift card. We had a 1/2 hr. conversation too. My son should be able to use this maybe next year with proper gear.:saw: I've been running a tired 025 for 20 years, so this is super tight compared to what I have been using.

Removing the bottom skid cover on our Tiguan is a pita too. I was tempted to leave it off, but it is used for aerodynamics or just to cut down noise. Definitely going to continue to use the extraction method.

Audi VW group at it's finest. It could be worse, but at least you can get almost all the oil out with the extractor. If the oil is warm, pretty much all of the crud is suspended in the oil too.

Warm oil is the key. We poured the extracted oil back into the 5 liter jug it came from and I don’t think we left an ounce behind. It was on a very slight downhill incline and there would have been more left if I had drained it from the plug because of it. Almost 1000 miles on the oil and it’s still very clean. I tried Pentosin (made in Germany) for the first time and I think it’s better than the Castrol Edge from the dealer.

Cute saw! I have a 180 and it's very comfortable for me, a 170 would be lots of fun! Hope your elbow improves.
