Waiting on my friend from church to come get some cooking wood this morning, then we have to go clean up a yard.

Happy Leap Day everyone! Yesterday I managed to hoard some wood... IMG_20200228_33924.jpg
I think it's catalpa. Today I'll try to get it split and stacked. A lot of it is pretty dry, with the bark flaking off.
I did some shopping too, buying just a little extra of a lot of things. No panic here, but just wait until they start closing schools!
23°, guess I better do something inside until it warms up.
    Have a great day everyone!

nice! that wood looks similar to our black ash, complete with lichen and mossy bark. I am not familiar with catalpa.

We have black mulberry around here...delicious berries for eating! Ours don't get that big, and the ones by our home have a smooth brown bark. I have no idea how many types of mulberry types there are, or if our would get rough like that if bigger.

Good morning my FHC friends. Hope everyone has a great Leap Day.
One of the rare days when Miss Julie and I have no where to go and all day to get there.
T.Jeff Veal glad you are taking advantage of a day off work for some fellowship and to do some more work.
Midwinter nice score of mystery wood. Catapala? I must research not even sure if we have it in Ohio.

Im sure I would love it too...

Are there some good folks working there? That is always a great thing in a good bait and tackle shop.

I thought so too. Guess I'll find out if the wood gets dark red.

The inside looks a Lot like black locust, the telltale lime green grain. The bark on the other hand isn’t. I’m not aware of mulberry so much but if I get them later in life, they stay well away in a reachable thicket for picking.

I was just out chipping rotten bark off it, I'm leaning to mulberry too.

To some the sabbath day is a day of rest. I would agree with the bait store theory though...

Good afternoon everybody. About 20* out and overcast. If you look really close you can see few flakes. Have a good weekend all.

I assume so, if I were fishing on regular basis though, I’d get enough bait for at least 2 days! No fooling though!

My brother just sent me this. They are down on the backwaters of the Mississippi around Wabasha, Mn. I was planning on going with him, with my cousin, and my high school fishing/hunting buddy who lives down there, but we had a funeral for my wife's cousin today.

In a few weeks I have a trip planned to Devil's Lake ND for spearing. Then I will be done on the ice until November or December.

Good Morning. It is 35f outside now. My wife and I are doing the coffee for the congregation at church this morning, which means I will collect a full 5 gallon pail of coffee grounds and filters for my compost. Later we are taking in some music and dinner out with my parents at a local jazz club.
