Really making an effort to get 3 years ahead this year. I'm having two loads delivered, and the first showed up today. Should get the second around the end of the month. I'll need to wait on some snow to melt before I can get at them safely. If I can get 10-12 cords out of the two loads, I should be on the 3 year plan.
Awesome. Wish I could get log loads around here, but no such luck. Heck, I can’t even get the tree service guys to sell me a dump load of wood. They can dump for free at our municipal tree/grass dump but I’ve offered cash and still no go. Those loads should make a huge start for ya Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've cut on a pile like that, all stuck, frozen together. Mostly because I had to though. Snooze, you loose type of deal.
I'm absolutely terrible at tree id, especially if there are no leaves, but I think it's mostly oak with a little maple and elm and one or two ash and white birch. It's what I would call a tandem or tri-axle. Load was $1200 CAD (about $900 USD), which is about average around here.
Mostly straight, easy access. I love cutting on log loads like that one. I see Oak, Maple and Birch, but beyond that.....no idea. It's nice the driver laid down some sleepers for the load.
Nice looking load. Yup, that'll getcha on the three year plan pretty quick! Are you able to scrounge. score any wood on your own 303Bourbon ?
I've been able to scrounge a little bit, but not nearly enough to get by. I find very little that's free, and when it is, it's long gone by the time I get there. The building I work in had 15-20 ash trees taken down and I asked for the wood, but they refused for liability reasons. Having to wear a suit every day also limits scrounging on my commute.
Nothing as sweet as a load of logs delivered. No danger of felling, no brush to deal with and no using your own gas to get it home. I look at that like I looked at my favorite toy as a kid on Christmas Day. Never looked at it as a chore but as future heat I just had to convert into splits. Enjoy.
That brings back some memories. I'm still waiting for a bit more snow to melt so I can get back at the drive full of logs. How much did you get and what are they?
I'm waiting on the snow too. I've been able to get at a little safely, but I'm going to need a bunch of snow to melt to start making a real dent. It's two tandem loads. They advertise 7 cords per load, but in my limited experience they yield closer to 6. If I end up around 12 cords I'll be happy, and fully on the three year plan. It's 90% maple. The rest is a mix of oak, beech, and birch.
Log loads delivered is the way to go if you have more cash than time. Unless you have some equipment, we all know the effort it takes to cut, load and haul a cord of wood out of the brush.
