Ok wood hoarders, looking for a good air purifier that works good for keeping the stove "dust" down. Seems like our stove kicks a lot around. Thanks for your help.

I tried a few different ones over the years, none worked that great and the filters were expensive (it was not a small house so the air turnover was minimal too unless I spent big $$, which I never did).

There is something out there I think called ionic, supposedly puts out ions that attach to dust to make it fall then vac it up.

The best I had at my old house was a hepa furnace filter taped to a box fan, holy cow you could SEE the dust it picked up o_O

Yea I went out to amazon and found an article that somebody had done a test of different purifiers. It was a one hour test. Same room for all. From low end to high end price. Their number 1 choice was a Coway. But is expensive. But with me having copd that is what we might have to do. Thanks for your thoughts.

Which one? One big one or 2 smaller ones from stove room and your bedroom?

I was kinda looking at the $200 for the living room as that is where we have the stove. That is where we are at for most of the day. The bed room door is almost always closed.

    THIS!!!
Much cheaper and easy to replace. I would just bungee cord a 20" furnace filter to a 20" box fan. You can run multiple rooms for cheaper than one "purifier"

Thanks both CoachSchaller and wildwest . Both of you suggested the box fan and filter. Now do you guys have a suggestion for a nice quiet box fan? It would be sitting in the same room as us.

I bought a humidifier by the same maker last winter. It works well and they sent me a new piece when it arrived broke.

Afraid not. I was using an old Lasko, ~1994 all those years. It still works but only high speed now....., the thick furnace filter dampened the sound a bit too. I bought kiddo a bright purple one from Walmart in the last year or two, it is louder than the Lasko.

One year in the spring I found an entire case of the really nice (either 3M or Arm & Hammer) filters for cheap! Also, Home Depot runs furnace filters on "Special of the Day" often.

That would be trial and error... I just picked up whatever was on special at the store. Likely Lasko - not because of quietness or ruggedness, but because of price.

Very happy with our Honeywell. Looks like $200 on amazon but I think the Mrs actually got ours from kohl’s with her discount coupons and what not.

Cleans smells (like escaped smoke from the stove) real quick.

Ok little update. Chaz did some researching. He found one that he likes. And it is not cheap. Basically he said "when it comes to my health it doesn't matter what it cost. He wants to keep me around for a few years." It will be coming in this week. It comes with two outside covers. For lack of a better description I have been calling them pillow cases. They are washable. So they can be changed out each week. I guess there are more filters in the unit itself. I will post a pic once we get it in.

Didn't see this thread till tonight.

For further info.. this is what I decided to go with.

At $300, it is not a cheap unit, but it has great air movement from what I read.

The Hepa and carbon filters are inside, and it has an external cloth filter (2 supplied) that can be removed and washed.

We'll update our feelings on it after we have it running a bit.

the best air filter I found is a can33 or similar and a 6" inline fan. They call them air scrubbers. They work well and a bit noisy, but you can lower the noise with a insulated flex duct.

Being in the living room, noise becomes a factor for me.

Constant, droning type noises tweak me out for some reason.
    :mad::mad:

I've gone so far as getting these for at work, although some of the droning there is constant banter.

    LOVE them!!!!!!!!!

Can listen to music, or just enjoy some silence.

they work so well you could probably put it in another room. but I understand about certain noises.

It is a slow time of the year for many HVAC technicians. Maybe you could find one that would rig up a metal enclosure that would fit a blower housing and a few Aprilaire air filters. Have the exhaust ducted up and out. If you have a closet in your LR or maybe a corner of a joining room then this would all be out of sight. I could draw up a sketch of you are having trouble visualizing my idea.
