Running out of space for wood anyway. Have myself and most buddies set up for next few years easy. and then I get the call. Do you want this red oak? I took the “small” stuff under 20”. But this 40” perfect knotless oak I said no to is gonna haunt me

That's a great score! Even the smaller stuff will get you a good amount. Those big trunk pieces would yield an unbelievable amount of splits.

I'll be dreaming about processing big rounds like that tonight. :binoculars:

Bring it home and noodle it. That’s a ton of great wood.

I would take those in a heartbeat if they could cut them into 16" rounds for me. And deliver. Even at 16", 30 and 40 inch rounds can pin you to the ground should you end up under one.
Splitting them is usually fairly easy, time consuming maybe, but not all that bad. Waiting a lifetime for red oak to season/dry can be an issue if you don't have much space.

I get it Stoveshamster Reminds me of the huge maple given to us, when we were first at the farm in 1994. My honey & daughter thought I was nuts... ... while my son thought it was the coolest wood he'd ever split... :dex::D

Those bigguns are a lot of work, but as said they create so much firewood. Especially worth it if Red Oak. Nice square splits for as far as the eye can see. Do you have a big saw, that’s where people usually struggle. I’m lucky in that I have a 460 Stihl, a 7900 Dolmar, and my brother has a 660 Stihl. Cutting bigguns isn’t an issue.

Big saws help for sure. I have a 362 with a 25” bar to use on my big oak score. I’m not sure I would have taken it on without it and there were times that I wished I had something bigger.

Just start noodling. It was the only way we could handle the big rounds off of James Miller 's elephant tree.

I'd be all over that big guy, just to say I did it. The wood yield is the bonus.

It’s not that I don’t want to get after it. I probably could. The problem I have is I have no place else to store wood. Me and my buddies are tapped out of space. This is Long Island don’t forget. We don’t have acres and acres. It’s a crying shame

If nothing else, cut it up, and take it to some one who might really need some wood in the future, good exercise and i'm sure there's some one out there who would really enjoy, and need it.
