DR PILOT K10 Electric Log Splitter | DR Power Equipment Wondering if anyone has or has tried an electric flywheel splitter? We need to only split about a cord of clean oak/maple/beech at the hunt camp ever year. I usually just split by hand with my x27 or I have hauled my 27 ton Ariens on occasion but that's a pain to trailer or load into the truck to make the 100 mile round trip trek for just a day. Being the only guy left that can actually cut and split, it would be nice to have the other guys help a little more. They are good for hauling the wood from the bush to the camp but are marginal at stacking . Having a small splitter would help. They can haul, split an stack while I fell and cut. Being small and electric, it would be easy to store and we wouldn't have to worry about "Dave" using bad gas.... again. Do you think we could run something like this on a Honda 3000 generator? Price is right at around $600 on sale.
Specs say it pulls 1060 Watts. The Honda 3000 (3000 surge) would be maxed on initial startup. Maybe if you could start the flywheel spinning by hand before turning on? Electric motor can pull up to 3 times their running Watts on startup.
That looks like an awesome little splitter. I know exactly what you mean about hauling a splitter to the cabin. It's a PITA. This would be pretty easy.

Next time you see him ask him about the night he was behind me at the first beaver dam and got outta his truck that he left in drive and just missed crushing my legs into my truck. He felt bad so gave me $40 on a $400 bumper.
Some not so positive reviews online on the DR K10 flywheel reliability. I went from 2 gas splitters to a DR 10 ton electric ( now discontinued) 11 years ago. The gas ones were loud, needed simple maintenance , were fast. The DR electric is quiet, no maintenance except for hydraulic fluid and sharpening the head. It is slow, butt I can split and start in short bursts, talk to myself , sing, listen to Rush.
Funny you say this, I couldn't find less than a 3 star review on the DR site but my kids work at the local TSC and my son said he has returned 3 of the DR kinetic splitters for flywheel cracks.
Look up other objective sites like arborist, hearth, etc... Of course the DR site has high reviews for this. The 2 DR tools we use hard --Brush Mower and electric splitter -- have been perfect for years.
Will do and good to hear about your good luck from your DR products. Maybe it's like other products that the "New and Improved" version is crap compared to older tried and true versions. A good marketing plan. Let's make a POS product that people will have to replace in a few years.... It's hard to sell new products when the old ones still work well.
