I started burning Oct. 2009 and ran out of wood late Feb. 2010 Luckily I found someone selling dry wood but it was a pretty long drive. After 4 trips with the utility trailer I decided to go big Glad to be on the three year plan now.
Ah yes, the bad old days. When I ran out, I would buy compressed sawdust bricks. Which got harder and harder to find, resulting in longer and longer drives.

First year I was still building the house. Didn’t have enough time or brains to get enough wood in. Ended up scouting for dry dead standing. Wasn’t a very good scout either. What I thought was dry and dead was more like wet and frozen solid.
I guess I was lucky. I already had owned my 40 acres 10 years before building on it. So I already had over 2 years worth of wood ready to go when the house did get built. Some of that wood had already been stacked and split for over 3 years. Since then I have increased it to 4 years worth of wood. Now I just maintain what I use every year. You gotta love it and you gotta love the knowledge this forum has to offer.
I can remember digging through the snow and pulling apart brush piles in March and April to find burnable wood. The acceptable size for burnable wood became smaller each time I went back.
