I'm gonna need more room, went across the street where I cut the tree tops and I figured it would have a couple blowed over trees from the bad storm we had a week ago. There are huge oaks down everywhere. Geez.. I ain't got no place to put all of it. probably enough down for three winters or more. I'm chompin at the bits to get it. I will try and get back over there later and take some pics. The ticks are pretty bad over there.
use all the protection you can to prevent a damm tick bite. If you get infected with lymes, you won't want to go back in the woods again unless it is freezing outside. Been there, done that! Best to have someone check your backside when you return home from the woods, and put the clothes directly in the wash. I pulled one off my wife last week. She doesn't even walk on the lawn!!!!!
SS, I got lymes disease in 2011, Absolutely "HORRIBLE" to get.... as SM said, protect yourself, lots of deet/off or cutter bug spray.
I hear you guys, I never had it but have heard that it is some bad stuff. I will spray real good if I go back. Ya'll done kind of scared me.lol I went over there on the 4 wheeler and still got two off me crawling. I may have more, ya ever get the itchy bug feeling when you feel things crawling on you.lol
Went back over there and took some pics, This is not all of them but you get the idea. Most of these trees are three foot across or more. More pics coming, there are 19 of them. I had to take a shower first, found several ticks on me. Most of it is red oak.
Holy Canoli SS. If no one else has access to that, it won't rot overnight. Wait for the ticks to back off. I have one word for ticks.....Permethrin. Or, .....DIE. The stuff some of these guys use is probably better than what I'm using, but Sawyers is real good stuff. Spray a heavy dose on your clothes, and go at it. I'm starting to think the stuff I have, although it kills 'em, isn't meant for application on clothes. Permethrin is the main ingredient in most of the flea/tick stuff you put on dogs. It works.
I can't get to all of it now anyway, grounds to wet back there. also don't have any more covered space to put it under. The ticks don't bother me cause I will take a bath in off or some other repellant. Also sweat so much I don't think they like my salty hide.lol
You have double trouble as I see it. You don't have a lot of space and you have alot of oak you need to store for awhile before burning it. I have about 1/4 acre overall, I find ways to get 10 cord on this property to season. I know it's somewhat of an eyesore but I actually get some nice comments from folks who visit seeing 10 cords nicely stacked into rows behind my garage.
That's what I'm hopin. I won't get it all this summer for sure. and won't be able to to when the rains hit in the fall.
Wait until December. The ticks should be gone then, no swatting insects and not so much sweat getting into your eyes or onto your glasses. On the other hand, that is a great score!
