So, my coworker needs some ash dropped at his place. We discussed it in the fall, and they are/were doable with my limited skill set.

He is not confident with his felling, so I said I'd help him out.

Well, he goes through a chit-ton of wood every year. Along the lines of 16 full cord per year.
    :faint:

So I spent the weekend up at his place.
    Dropped and delimbed 3 yesterday.
These were the sketchiest ones as there are electric lines running to their barn.
They have heat lamps on recently birthed lambs and a goat. So, these had to drop correctly so as to not take out the lines, or the clothesline posts.

Second one laid on top of the first, with around 6ft left before the power lines.

Then a third one that had to be guided away from the shed.

    20200222_135816.jpg

Some serious rot at the center of that one.

Missed the shed by around 10 ft.

Since they were across the driveway I helped delimbing them and move debris.

    So.. That's Saturday.

Great job, Chaz! Your buddy is lucky to have you. Safe drops, no damage, baby animals don't have to sleep inside.

I hoist a glass of Winning to you, sir!

So.. after yesterday's fun, I awoke a bit stiff and sore in areas, but more needs done.

So, today I go back and drop 9 trees, no delimbing today.
    :dancer:

Only some fencing to to avoid.

There's 3 that I didn't want to tackle today, as I feel they require "guidance" but I can't get a rope over the branches due to height.

Barcroftb or amateur cutter any recommendations on a "spud gun"??

    Thanks BigPapi and hovlandhomestead

Was fun to do a bit of felling.

Although I did find an issue with the Stihl, I haven't tore it apart for pics yet, will be seeking advice this week.

Appears everything went where you wanted it. Good job. Your friend/coworker is fortunate to have your acquaintance.

I found out today rather unsurprisingly that the Poulan 4218 lacks the gumption for a bore cut.
    :picard:

I do hope the issue on the Stihl is fixable, although heavier than the Poulan, it has horsepower to spare.

After my reading here, I did bore cuts on all 3 trees yesterday, and I'm a fan.

Nice job! Looks like a lot of fun, figuring which one goes first and where. As Eric VW put it, never lose that pucker factor.
    Smoothies on the house!

    Thanks everyone for the comments.
    :emb:
    :)

    Coworker was indeed quite thankful.

He's got a large farmhouse that is in dire need of insulation.

    We've discussed it many times.

Fortunately for him, he's had a tree service dropping off wood, but the main dropping area is currently inaccessible.

For better or worse, these trees will be split and fed into his furnace within the coming weeks.
    :doh::picard:

Not for naught however, he's got a very healthy stand of oak trees on his 50 acres, and I'm welcome to drop and take some.
    :thumbs::thumbs:

Now I need more storage space.
