Had a small pile of standing dead oak logs where I want to stack the hickory that’s waiting for me in the woods. Mostly barkless which is why I had it set aside. Could burn it next year if I wanted. IMO
Cut and split a load today. Few big pieces still left but no more room on the truck
There’s a couple with bark in the pic. I’ll send those over to the 3+ year pile. From a different tree.
Then it’s off to the hickory score. Woo Hoo

That looks nice. I can almost smell that fresh spit wood and earth from here. All I can see outside now is snow.

Very little of the white stuff in Ct this year. Glad I traded in the sled for an ATV. Sure do miss that throttle response tho.

What did you have for a sled? That looks like a nice ATV you have there.

I run 87 and 91 Ski Doo Tundras, so not much for throttle response! But they run great in deep snow and are easy to get around in, or unstuck from slush on the lakes. Easy to repair too, but I haven't had many problems with either of them.

Had a 2015 Indy 600. Think that little booger had 120 horse. A trail sled with shallow lugs for speed. Not too good in the deep stuff. Good thing there’s no stop signs down here :)

Those 600 Polaris liberty VES are way underrated. I'm selling the original 2000 600 liberty 600 VES that I snow checked in spring of 99. This thing is a rocket. How is it that a little 600 can smoke almost any near stock 800 on a lake? I just don't use a 1 up sled much anymore. Snow, we've got a decent amount of that even at my house in SE Wisconsin. The trails have been ridable seen here a lot more than they typically have been over the last 20 years.

But yes, a 4 wheeler you can use all year round, plus they are just better for firewood and for just about any utility use.

Dang, gettin all melancholy now. Was gonna post a pic of it and found a video I made. Hadn’t watched that in years. Crappy quality, washed through three filters.
I do miss it even though I’m just about the only person to sled in Ct :)
Woods all to yourself. Just no groomed trails. Get out of the lane six inches and your gonna end up eating a ski. Lots of rock and boulders under the snow.

jo191145 , there's decent trails dinner by my house, but if you go up to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, the trail systems are EPIC. You can actually go places, cities, bars/ restaurants, festivals etc. People actually do back back trips interstate up to the UP of Michigan and such.

    Ahhh,. Fun times...

The trap was set when we redid the floor in the kitchen.... I was fine tho... the real chit hit the fan 2 days later with my dad... I’ll leave that one alone for a while... but with the emotional stress/damage there, and further physical work, my back finally gave out 12/11/19..... missed a whole month of work... so now 3rd week of February and I’m getting back to being myself... slowly.

Glad you're on the mend Eric.

Speaking of sleds... I ended up selling my '81 Scorpion Sidewinder a few years ago to a guy up in Wisconsin who was going to restore it. I hated to let it go, but I just couldn't ride it much anymore. I bought it new and it always ran great. In it's day it was a beast and was always fun to ride. I know the newer sleds are faster, more comfy, and specialized, but back in the day it was IT. So much fun and I miss it, but thanks guys for bringing back some pretty cool memories.

Nice looking wood yard! Nice and flat and plenty of room to work.

Have to come out this way to find any snow in CT this year. What a crummy winter for snow. We’ve been mostly covered in white since December buts it’s never been deep. Just that one storm in early December that dropped a foot and it’s been all small snows since. One inch here. Couple inches there. Small snows that melt down right away and turn to solid ice. But it’s ice only right where I want to be working.

I know we as a group have these discussions from time to time. Throw it out there one more time. Gatorade. Start pounding Gatorade. 40-60 ounces a day. If no effect after one week you can discontinue.
40 years a bad back. Blew it up good at 18 lifting rocks bigger than I. Wasn’t till late in my career and life of my spine I figured out the cure.
    Hope your getting better.

Bought my first sled in 2014. Sort of a bucket list thing. Gotta try this. A 96 Polaris 600 triple. Could’ve used a carb clean as it only wanted to run wide open and no reverse. It was still a fun year. I was hooked.
Never had a chance to work on it. The next year I couldnt get it running and they were calling for 18”. I drove to the dealer and bought the 2015. Electric start, reverse and zippy. Had two fun years back to back then it stopped snowing.

Yeah we didn’t even get that first foot. Need at least a foot just to think about starting the sled out here. Then you had better get a good amount more on top. The trails are all rock. Mostly roads from the 1700’s that the 4wd trucks have kept open,,,and destroyed. Lots of skidder trails and we all know how smooth they are :)
But it’s fun. Went up North sledding once and find it a little boring. No obstacles to avoid, flat groomed trails. I like boondocking.

Some nice splits Joe. How much will the dump hold cordwise? Makes for a nice split mover huh? Great labor saver for sure!

Not really sure. It’s 6x8. Must hold 5/8 - 3/4 cord? Yeah it’s a surely handy yard truck.
I’ll still split and toss next to pallets on occasion but it’s better to split and move. No bending down.
