So I had an interesting encounter yesterday morning... I towed my boat to Walmart and got a coffee at the Dunkin Donuts in Lake Wales proper. While sitting in the truck feeding the dog a muffin I notice a guy walking around my boat studying hard. He finally comes up to the window to talk. I assume he is a fisherman, that’s all everybody does around here. He introduces himself as Rob Dipardo. As it turns out he retrieves Longleaf pine logs from the surrounding lakes that sank over a hundred years ago. Evidently these lakes were covered with sawmills and logs were dumped by the rail car load into them and grappled into the mill. We talked for about an hour. He has published several books and is looking to preserve this resource and turn it into lumber for historic preservation of buildings. He isn’t just in it for the money, he is passionate about this and has all required permits from the state of Florida to dive and retrieve. He knows all the dive guys from Ax Men and even Shelby. He wants me to use my boat to help him get these logs. He says the size, stability and unsinkability is perfect for the chore. I’m in! He says we can get 7 logs per day and each is worth $4k. Wow! Have fun and maybe put a little coin in my pocket. Perhaps I’m not out of the wood business yet! Funny how life throws these little curves. If this comes to fruition I will definitely document video and pics.
Pay off your boat, maybe. Hope it's unsinkable. Very cool to harvest underwater wood. You can't escape wood hoarding!
I'm always the skeptic. This dont sound right. He harvests $28000 worth of logs per day and needs your boat???
She'll sleep like a baby tonight! She obviously knows and loves you. Good job grandparents! I'm in the home stretch, DIL should be back soon. I might do tomorrow, too.
You're making sense... maybe each perfect log is worth a lot after it is retrieved, dried, milled, and the boards sold as flooring. Nobody standing at the landing 4K in hand. Do your due diligence, Brandon!
What a cutie.. but you did an opps. Lol. She will remember that piano and as she gets more mobile guess where she will be making a bee line for. Looks like you had a great day.
Sounds very interesting and id be like to see thelogs. Years back the was an episode of "New Yankee Workshop" from public tv. He bought cypress boards that were milled from reclaimed sunken logs found in Southern rivers. Part of the episode showed him on the boat with the divers retrieving the logs. He made a lidded bench from the lumber. I bought the plan and made mine from cedar.
Good Morning. Just work today. No granddaughter time until Sunday. It is 11f now, warming to 35f this afternoon. I might go out and open up my hole in the spearhouse this afternoon in preparation for the weekend. I am sure there is a good 10-12" of new ice since I was last out there a few weeks ago.
Good morning, all. I'm hoping a tree service will fell some trees today, that are threatening some utility lines. Just a short drive away, at a friends. Once down on the ground, they are mine.
Good morning everyone one! More grandson today, I have to get down there early so everyone can go to work. But, I get relieved at 1P. Traffic wasn't bad yesterday, enough commuters take school vacation week off to lighten up the congestion. I've been turning my grandson on to classic comics. He's been through a serious Little Lulu phase, now we're starting on Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge by Carl Barks. I saved the books from when my son was that age. Did I mention that I'm a hoarder? 10° right now, but after today we have a warm weekend. They are predicting a cold early March, though. I really need some exercise, hope to make some firewood tomorrow! Have a great day everyone!
I saw the pics, multiple trunks. Those are the best scores, close to home, and with the homeowner's permission. It will be a beautiful weekend, hope they get dropped today!
Precious memories. We took our 3yr old grandson to see "Call of the Wild" last night. He snuggled up with me for about an hour. Loved it.
Good morning. Hoarders! Hope everyone is doing well this morning! Spent the day yesterday making a bowl out of black birch. A little more sanding and it's time for polish. Hope everyone has a great day. God bless.
