This big douglas fir at the local park diverged into two trunks about half way up. Last weekend one of the trunks broke off. When I went back today, the rest of it had been taken down and cut into rounds. I've inquired about down trees there before, but park staff split it and sell it to campers during the summer. This stuff is straight grained and already cracking.
Asking after downed trees is what scrounging firewood is all about. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not.
It's too bad the parks department doesn't let people take wood. Because a lot of nice trees hit the ground there. It all gets sold to campers in bundles.
At least they’re selling it to the campers. In Ct the taxpayers get the bill to have it incinerated. Then get the bill again for the electricity it generates
I’m actually not surprised though. With my time camping growing up, they didn’t mind if you took the branches that fell around the campground but massive trees? I’d say let it keep in the park, that’s a small bit of funding they don’t get to procure on their own often...
Agreed. I'm not complaining. We can't get every piece of firewood we want. Somebody was able to get some of it if they wanted. That somebody is the homeowner next to the park, who had part of the tree take out their fence and land in their back yard.
