This is the first time I have started a thread on this site. I have gotten a lot of good information from other member's threads and have decided to try and make a small contribution. Quite a bit of trash is dragged back when the cylinder retracts on my log splitter. The trash then builds up on the top of the I-beam and some of it will eventually fall off onto the engine. Might not be a big deal to some but it drives me crazy and I waste time picking the stuff out from around the engine. I had some some thin pieces of wood left over from ripping 2X4's and a piece of left over window screen material laying around and I built this trash guard. I used a couple of cheap plastic spring clamps to secure it to the bottom of the I-beam. It just takes a minute to remove when refueling and allows good air flow around the engine.
Good idea. I have pretty much the same splitter. Always concerned with the pieces that fall down into the carb area and rest on the throttle/governor linkage. Haven’t noticed it causing any trouble but I’m surprised it hasn’t.
Quoting for emphasis ? I've clamped a piece of tin on but more to stop splits from sliding off and dinging the motor and breaking something.
