Did some cleanup in the old apple orchard. Got a fire going and got most of the wood cleared and gathered. Will need a couple more fires to finish it up but it is mostly ready for the mower. A little of the apple wood looked like it would make a bit of firewood but I think I’m going to burn it up there. Nice day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I had seen a plantation like that headed out to the ocean side of my state. They had a sign up saying something renewable resource trees, and my dad was driving at the time so I asked him about it, he thought they were making paper. The plantation isn’t there anymore, just a field. Some 20+ years ago.
Apple wood ....That has BBQ written all over it. I smoke with apple when doing home-made bacon. My personal preference especially for pork.
Hey Brad , In all seriousness I can hook you up. I just used my last pound I made last weekend and was just talking to the wife that I need to make another batch in the near future as well as another batch of homemade sausage with spinach and provolone ; this one is a winner and great on the grill. When I do so I will send you a care package if you would like.
They were growing a lot of hybrid cottonwood in the area for use at the local paper mills. Originally it was to be used by cooking it in the digesters but that plan didn’t work out so they started mixing it to use it in the grinders to make pulp for newsprint. When they shut down the newsprint machine they started using it in the digesters again. Mixing it at about a 15% mix with Alder chips as a low cost alternative to Alder chips. We received the chips from local plantations by truck and from the Oregon gorge by barge. They lease the land to grow on. I don’t know what they pay but at least one dairy in the area shut down to grow trees. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
