Hlsupply has a Presidents’ Day sale going on & I’ll probably be getting some stuff. There’s 2 types of air filters for a 266, nylon mesh & felt. Anybody got any thoughts or preferences as to which one is better?
Mesh can be easily washed in parts cleaner solvent , soap and water ( whatever you use ) and blown out with an air-hose. I don't think they recommend that for felt.
Not to argue or be corrective but I have always cleaned out my felt filter with a brake cleaner spray(quick evap), allowed time to dry thoroughly and it’s good to go. I actually take an extra with me then just swap out at re-fuel/sharpen time. I have heard on this site that the mesh filter is recommended in cold temps but don’t quote me on it. I better read my manual more thoroughly.
No worries , and don't quote me but I am pretty sure I read that felt filters shouldn't be washed ; again could be wrong and if I am I apologize if I am wrong on this. Let me see if I can confirm this. Never heard of the screen for winter months myself.
Did a quick search and it looks like most people say soap and water for felt of flocked filter is OK but do not use solvents on them. Guess I might actually wash mine now. Thanks.
Mesh screen usually recommended for green wood and low dirt/dust cutting conditions. They will flow better and are easier to clean. Felt type are tighter so they catch more. I have been washing felt style filters for many yrs, the key is not to rub or scrub them as it will take felt off when you do. Brake clean works great as does dishwasher soap. Soap and water takes longer to dry. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
No dig on HL as whole, I’ve had bad luck with air filters, AM, with them. They don’t fit well or snap together right. My experience. I’d order OEM and you should be good to go. I am amazed how well the cheap AM carburetors perform. As a side note.
