I text my buddy that owns the company I used to sell for...he is still in the biz. Turns out, y'all are exactly right...I learned something today on FHC (pretty normal) and yes, he said Ram did the same thing too. This is the 2500 chassis, but not the 2500HD chassis...even though the GVWR is as high as the old 3/4 ton HD were (8600#) the 2500HD have a GVWR north of 9000# for single rear wheel (that used to be one ton territory)
It used to be that 3/4 ton lights had a 7000-8000 GVWR, the 3/4 HD went 8600-8800#, single rear wheel 1 ton 9000#, dual rear wheel pickup 10,000#, cab n chassis DRW 10k and up. Guess things have changed since then...
That makes sense. I wasn't positive about the frame situation, but you can tell it's not a 2500HD frame in the pic. The 2500HD frame has some mighty deep frame rails
The VIN decoder website worked great. 6th digit is a 1. This signifies 1500 chassis. Of course I’m a day late because everyone has it figured out already.
Didn’t ford do something like that in the early 2000s? They had f150 and 250 badges and had those weird 7-lug wheels.
They have all had 3/4 ton light duty/heavy duty versions at one time or the other...but yes, those 7 bolt Ford wheels were a weird one. This was just my first time running across a "1/2 ton HD"...
I remember my friendly neighborhood Napa store owner told me that was the only way to get the 6.0 in a 1/2 ton Silverado.
We had a nice looking 1500HD come by work today. That bluish grey, crew cab, had a plow. Unfortunately had significant rust. Those 7 lug fords sound like a pain, wouldn't want one. Was interesting how they called them the F-250 LD at first till the super duty line came out, then they were the F-150 7700. Hard to get wheels for, and probably certain parts too since they're pretty rare. Thankfully the 13th Gen F-150 dropped the 7 lug deal for a heavy payload package with the standard 6 lugs. I do believe you're right about the 6.0, although the best classification for such trucks is 5/8 ton. A noticeable step up from a regular half ton without being a true HD. In the previous generation GMT400 trucks, Gm did similar to what ford did at first, instead of a 1500HD they had a 2500 LD. One big difference was instead of 8 lugs, the 4x4s had 6 lug wheels like the 1500, but the 2wds also had 6 lugs whereas 1500 2wds had 5 lugs back then
I had a F250 with the 7 lug wheels but not any more. Never could figure that wheel thing out , almost impossible to find wheels for it when I had it.
What a beautiful day for cutting wood. Wow. 40* and sunny. Cut and delivered a load to a friend first thing this a.m. Then back to my place. The MS250 brothers are getting a workout today.
Did not cut any wood today. But did get the truck back and it's firing on all 10 cylinders again (dead coils on 7 & 10). Maybe tomorrow.
Little load of elm that's been laying in my friends yard for 2 years. He finally gave up on his BIL coming to get it, so I told him I would take it.
Little load of oak for my cousin. Truck will get a new trans in the next 2 weeks then I can use it like a 1 ton again. I remember staring at the sky with the old dakota and 150 loaded like this. The 350 doesn't even notice.
