I managed to finally find a couple hours over the past weekend to finish putting new splitter together and give it just a short test drive. Rugged built 37 ton with log lift ; no more bending over and this thing is FAST and POWERFUL Also picked up a load of nice oak yesterday morning ; all big stuff around 20 inches in diameter that is nice and straight. This should be a good test of what this thing can do. It better outlast me.
Thanks guys. Probably more than what I needed but getting tired of lifting larger rounds and splitting vertical. Hopefully this will save the old back and speed things up as well. I'll keep you posted when I finally get a few hours to really let it eat.
Congrats. I've also got a 37 ton splitter but no log lift (wasn't in the budget) and now wish I'd gone hungry for a while to get the log lift.
Very nice, but had you parked your wheelbarrow under/at the end of the table you wouldn't be picking up those pieces either. Since you have that style table, if you make an extension for it, say 10-14', you can split and it will push until the total top is full the complete length. Then if you have parked beside your woodpile, you can just transfer the pieces from the table to the stack along the length of the table EASILY!! Slight upward angle, have seen pickups loaded with splitters like this and the table I tried to explain.
Keep updating this thread. I'm interested in this particular splitter. I like the push through style. JWinIndiana is right, a few extra steps and you'll save a lot of work.
I didnt put wheelbarrow under it because the pile it is going into is just to the left of the pile of split stuff just out of the picture. Normally I don't split in the middle of the driveway either , usually out back near the woodpile. I had just a few leftover rounds on the pallet from a load a couple weeks ago I had left aside knowing I needed something to try it with. Area and pile on ground not normal for me; just a test.
Thats what i try to do. I'll pull the splitter right into the woods and split into the trailer, then right from trailer to stack. Or set the splitter right next to the stack and bring rounds in on the trailer and stack as the pieces come off the splitter. Anything to save a step and i always make it that I'm not picking anything off the ground twice....Thats the reason for not building my new trailer to dump
That is the plan . rounds come off trailer , through the splitter and from outfeed table it will go right on the stack. Like a kid on Christmas morning ; I just couldn't wait to try it out.
They are a wood eating machine! I use a pair of Husky wood tongs in each hand to load the ramp with a good stack of rounds. Then up she goes and a splitting fool is born. I haven't found anything yet the lift can't handle. Wifey loves stacking as the wood comes off. It's fast enough that I have buried two guys trying to keep up with the stacking.
You bet she does. As long as I can keep it simple. She's loves the smell of fresh split walnut, being outside and getting a little productive exercise. It was actually her idea to buy the splitter although she's reluctant to operate it. If I'm working a big piece, she'll jump right in and tackle the splits or roll a large round onto the lift. I think I got pretty lucky for the past 37 years and who am I to say no?
That’s awesome buzz-saw. Been eyeballing the RuggedMade splitters myself because of the log lift and the great reviews Best of luck with it...!
