I’m looking into getting a 4 wheel cart for firewood transporting around the wood lot when I don’t want to use a machine. I’ve used wheelbarrows, including a big 2 wheel one. A good size cart will hold more and can be converted into a flatbed to move lumber, branches, etc around. The one I’m looking at is the Gorilla cart 1400. Nice big tires and a wide footprint. Anyone use carts and how do you like them?

Looks like a good choice. I've been debating the same thing, just haven't pulled the string yet.

Yeah. We don't use it for general yard work, but it's what I use to bring in wood.

I also used it with the sides off to move the IS around, so it'll definitely handle the weight.

We used to stack wood inside, but with Chazsbetterhalf breathing problems, I've taken to just parking the filled cart near the stove.

EDIT.. Before the code police show up, yes my wood is 4" too close to the stove. The cart is 15" away, not 19".

I understand and accept the consequences of my actions.

We do have 3 serviceable fire extinguisher handy.

I think the ideal steel has a short clearance to combustibles so you might be fine. I forget off hand.

I use a smaller gorilla cart than the one you are looking at sirbuildalot . It works great.

Mines this one. 20.5" wide x 40" or so long.
Screenshot_20200217-191311.png I like that it's narrow for some spots, but towing behind the ATV or tractor, the wider 24" one you are looking at would help. The convertible handle is really nice.

How do you like it compared to a wheelbarrow? Part of the reason I got the wider one is for stability on uneven terrain, and the other is I wanted the big 15” tires. The 2x4 ish carts all seemed to have 10” tires.

    Lol
I hate wheelbarrows. They are right there behind coffee on the dislike scale for me.

The carts are nice and stable. You'll love it, but mine when I fill it with hardwood, it's heavy. A little difficult to haul up a hill with my manpower. I'm a big guy too. A bigger cart will only with more full, but of you don't have any hills, then no problem. You could always not fill it all the way as well.;)

At any rate, yes, way better than any wheelbarrow.

I had one years back and liked it a lot. Big Lots cheapie. I worked it til it died. I overload all the time. Just got a two wheeler wheelbarrow (7 cubic ft. i think) and love it. Never owned one before.

We have one of the Gorilla 1,500 lb. Capacity Super Heavy-Duty Poly Dump Cart with 10 Cu. ft. Bed. I used it once for wood, pulled very hard. 1213465.jpeg

Believe it or not, our grandson got one for his birthday, he's the one who wanted it. They are really great carts, i've loaded it pretty heavy with oak from some tree's his mom had cut down this summer, its a pretty good heavy duty cart.

92EC83EE-400C-4FDE-B6C9-01F3B59CA259.png I have used this little number for the last couple of years. It works great. I love the big gorilla carts, but I have a pretty decent hill that I have to get the wood up - between the wood pile and the door. The hill is about 45 feet long and fairly steep. Like Horkn said - Those wood carts just get too heavy to move up the hill. Especially with a little snow and ice on the hill. I’m a very fit dude, too. What you gain in stability with 4 wheels, you loose in ease of movement. This little cart holds a ton of wood and I can easily muster it up my hill. If you don’t have any hills, the big cart will probably be great though.

There are heavier duty versions of this type of cart, but this one works fine for me.

We have one like that, maybe the same one. It tips backwards if there is too much weight in the rear. Would not recommend.

My son bought one back in December for taking firewood out to his wood stand. He struggled with a loaded wheelbarrow (he's 8). My wife found one on sale at Tractor Supply for $105 with tax. 1400 pound capacity and the sides/ends all fold down to allow you to put larger objects on it. He can now load it almost full and wheel it around the yard himself.

Thankfully, my yard is pretty flat. My woodshed is about 150'-175' from the house. The woods area I'm setting up as a processing area is also flat.

What started it was a conversation with my brother about him getting a wheelbarrow. He mentioned he wanted to haul more wood, and was thinking of getting a two wheel version. His single wheel versions are the old metal ones with 4 cu. ft. tubs. I mentioned how my plastic tub 2 wheeled 8 cu. ft. barrow had several areas that the plastic broke and I was thinking of getting a 4 wheel cart. I sent him a link to a few different carts, and he ended up buying a smaller Gorilla cart from Home Depot. I got several picture messages with it full and how much he liked it. Ive been thinking of getting a 4 wheel cart for well over a year, but never pulled the trigger. I said to myself, "Why put off til tomorrow what you could order today?" lol

I ordered the 1400 lb Gorilla cart I linked earlier. Its supposed to arrive on Thursday.
