Good morning, everyone. Thoughts on what this tree is? Splits easy, very light color inside. Tree was felled by the power company so I don’t have leaves to go by. Thanks![IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

My first thought is ash because of the bark in the third picture. If you have a round that has not been split, check it for a small hole in the center of the round. If it's there it's ash for sure. If not then go with the I.D. from TMACK, basswood. I don't see much baswood in my area.

It may just be the picture, but that last picture just doesn't look right for ash. There are a hundred reasons for the the same species to look different coming from different areas.

Thanks, everyone. I initially thought ash, too, but if it is ash, it might be the only ash on my property not to have evidence of emerald ash borer. Basswood might be the correct diagnosis.

Looks identical to medium sized basswood trees that' I've cut. Not great firewood, but dries fast and smells good when burning. Good for a quick, hot morning fire.

initially i thought ash by the bark, but i think basswood as i recently processed some. Splits very easily.
