Noticed something interesting....I have 2 thermometers on he top of my Jotul F600...One is in the far, back left corner...Reads about 525F....the other one is on the oval cook top smack in the middle right in front of the pipe and it reads about 600F...Why such a difference and which one is accurate????
One is hotter than the other! Must be in the path directly leading to the flue, no? Why would you put two thermometers on top of your stove anyway?
To really find out about your stove, get yourself one of these things. Lots can be had for around $30. It is interesting what you'll find out about your stove and for sure you'll find the hottest places. Same for the flue. Same for your girlfriend...
And just wait until your cat discovers that little red dot it can't catch! Probably some form of abuse, but funnier that heck!
Theres better ways to find the hottest parts of your wife/girlfriend. But torturing the cat is great entertainment.
The laser ones work great. I use that to ensure my stovetop thermometer is accurate. Good timing on this thread. I just checked my laser batteries and they were leaking. Cleaned it up, put in fresh batteries and we're good to go!
I have an F118. The flue gasses are directed at the plate. The plate is also steel so perhaps it’s a faster conductor than the cast iron body of the stove. I keep one thermometer on the cast iron and one on the pipe.
