Smells like it at least. I pulled this out of my neighbors log pile from where he cleared a path for his driveway to his new house. I didn’t think to look for leaves while I was there.

I would say in the red oak family.

Fat growth rings for oak. That must have been one happy tree.

Once checked out a Black Oak scrounge. The rings on that were bigger than anything I’d ever seen. Swear some were 1/2”
Never went back for it. Too far, too much trouble to access and HUGE.

There was one round in particular that the rings were way fatter on one side. No pics though. It’s split and stacked for later.

The leaves of a pin oak are "daintier & skinny" as compared to other oaks. Check the leaves on the ground. Ill see if i can post a pic later.

The bark is screaming black oak...
Gotta be some kind of red oak though.
Northern red oak, southern red oak, pin and black oak all have a similar bark.

Out where I cut there is some sort of red oak very similar to black oak on the north hillside that is shaded. Very odd. 400 acres, lots of white oak, live oak, etc., and then these odd ones. Pretty neat, should take pictures of them. Bark looks like black oak, and only grew in that shaded hillside.
