Has your weather changed in your lifetime?

Not much winter to be found in much of the east this year. More days in the 60’s than in the 20’s here in south Jersey

 

A lot of things scare me. The weather just simply is not one of them.

 

Where did I say I was scared?

 

come on north buddy we got 3 feet of snow going to 12 below tomorrow.. bring your splitter..

 

I was in your state last weekend and it was in the 30’s at 4200’. Everything was brown in Rutland. If not for man made snow, Killington wouldn’t have been open

 

I was just gonna say, like was posted earlier in this thread that 12,000 short years ago, where I sit and type we were under a glacier a mile thick. No humans caused that to melt. Naturally occuring climate change did. I read somewhere recently, I wouldn't know where to find it, so don't ask, that one BIG volcano can release 500 trillion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. It will happen again, it always has. The sun's activity and the changing eccentricity of earths orbit have a big, the biggest affect on our temps. In NH some years we get more snow and cold, some years less... it is what it is. I ain't gonna worry about it, or pay more taxes to people who can't count 120,000 votes in Iowa and think they can predict the weather 50 years from now.

Phillips Maine has a little "pebble" called Daggett Rock. Before ice split it into 3 monster pieces, it was about 60'-70' in diameter, with more than 2/3 of it below ground. It is the largest glacially moved rock in North America. That ice age you mentioned NH mountain man moved it about 10 miles from mountains, northwest of it. A 1/2 mile thick sheet of ice can do that... Guessing a fair amount of global warming, without man's help, juz miiiiight have made it all disappear.

Isn't this how it always go with this topic? At least on this site, people remained civil and exchanged information and ideas. I would call it fairly productive compared to how it could have gone.

 

Can't find where anyone said climate change was fake... just man made climate change... ya know, the one that comes for yer money... ... and jrider , you're spot on... when climate skeptics and climate hysterics usually go at it, it devolves into a ditch perty quick...

 

Oh absolutely think climate is in a warming trend or warmer period. Certainly care about environment and want to keep it clean and healthy for our children.

 

Since this is in the "Wood Pile" I guess I'll link it back to firewood...

I went out yesterday to the stacks to bring some wood in, out of the weather. I realized that I am still burning shoulder season wood, basically softer, lighter, splits that I use for a quick warm-up fire when I get home in the evening or first thing in the morning. I have not hit my "24/7" stacks of good hardwoods yet(mainly 3+ year red oak). I haven't needed to.

Usually by mid-February we have had a couple of very cold spells where, for about a week, the temperatures have highs around 20°F and lows in the single digits or below. This year there have been a number of days with highs in the 60s and the lows have averaged well above freezing. We normally have a couple of good snow storms by now and expect at least one more before the spring thaw. Some years there was continuous snow cover from the end of December till the end of February. All we have had this year is one dusting of about an inch, I haven't taken the snowblower out of summer storage yet.

I remember when I was a kid having to trudge 30 miles to school in 2 foot deep snow, up hill both ways, and bare-foot so I didn't ruin my only pair of shoes.
