I have been experiencing some bad storms here. We are under a tornado warning and a flash flood warning. We were getting several inches of rain per hour but it seems to be getting better. Thunderstorms moving through the area. The little valley is getting flooded, the garden is going to be a mess; I will need to do a lot of work before I can use it and of course that means I need to get the Old Girl running before spring arrives. I think this is one of the worst I have seen. The photo is a bit on the blurry side; I used my phone and it didn't want to focus in the rain.
Surveyed the damage from the water and the garden is not that bad; I think it had settled enough this winter that the soil was more packed than if I had been ploughing. However, it damaged the road. If you look at the photo above, the water flow in the lower part is down the side of the road. I have made feeble attempts at controlling that flow and everything I did along the side of the road was washed away as if it had never been done. The problem is that the crossing cannot carry the flow and it washed over and down along the side of the road to the garden. The photo below shows the crossing; that needs to be address first before anything else. I would like to get a concrete culvert delivered although I will need the tractor running in order to get it from the house down to the crossing. This is a dry crossing; there is no stream here only the run-off from heavy downpours. I need to dig out, install a culvert, and I also need to do some fill on the other side for the road. I have access to a blade from a member of the family to help with the work.
